Graduate Ready for College,
Career and Life
How can AISD increase the number
of high school students who graduate
ready to succeed in college or career?
Will all students have at least one
responsible adult on their campus who
knows when they’re absent or having
problems? Can students relate their
coursework to their lives? Are students
engaged in rigorous classwork?
These questions have been at the core of
AISD’s High School Redesign initiative
over the last two years, and the answers
lie in the fundamental changes that are
being made in high schools across the
district. Redesign is about creating new
systems in our schools that enable every
student to succeed. Although traditional
high school certainly works well for many
students, many more students struggle
academically, fall through the cracks,
don’t have an adult on campus who
cares about them personally, are not part
of a community on campus, or never
feel challenged by their coursework.
So how will Redesign make high school
look different to students? Even though
AISD recognizes that “one size does not
fit all,” every high school campus will
redesign to meet certain expectations.
Student Advisory has been initiated
districtwide to ensure that all students
will have a caring adult on campus
who will help them navigate their high
school experience under the banner
“On Your Case. On Your Side.” These
