INTRODUCTION
The Flamenco Guitar Rhythmic Method 2 is the continuation of the first volume of the collection,
this book being classified as intermediate level. This method aims to teach flamenco guitar with
reference to flamenco rhythm. This second volume contains repertoire from contemporary
flamenco, including examples of musical variations by the great masters such as Paco de Lucía,
Tomatito and Moraíto, and new guitarists like Diego del Morao. This volume also covers flamenco
harmony, practical advice on how to achieve good technique, memory exercises, and sightreading.
In addition, there is a special section on right hand technique with the aim of achieving a clean and
strong sound, and a history of the evolution of flamenco guitar, explained by the flamencologist
Norberto Torres. Finally, the complete transcription of Niño Miguel’s famous piece “Vals flamenco”
has been included here for the first time, being an impressively creative piece of music.
The learning method is classified into two main sections: the Rumba and the Bulerias styles, and
demonstrates all of the characteristic flamenco techniques, such as “thumb technique, picado,
rasgueos, tremelo, alzapúa and arpeggios”, within the context of flamenco rhythm in these two
styles. After a thorough learning of the rhythms and technique, we are then presented with
musical pieces and highly rhythmic variations including those from more recent flamenco styles.
There are brief introductions to the rhythmic, harmonic, melodic and historic theories of each new
style covered. The styles performed are: Rumba, Bulerias, Fandangos, Verdiales, Taranto,
Tanguillos, Soleá, Soleá por bulerías, Alegrías, Siguiriya, Tientos, Tangos, Farruca, and Guajira.
The CD included contains all the exercises, musical variations, and pieces in standard audio
format and mp3 for a musical reference. On the same CD there are also didactic videos
demonstrating how to play various exercises, mp3s with chord progressions, mp3 examples from
the book at both normal and slow speeds, rhythmic backing tracks of the styles covered, and pdf
files.
