Gui<strong>de</strong>lines for authors<br />

Investigaciones Geográficas is a Mexican scientific<br />

journal in the field of Geography, with excellencelevel<br />

recognition. Original papers are published in<br />

Spanish, Portuguese and English, and are submitted<br />

to evaluation by an expert committee. Authors<br />

must follow these gui<strong>de</strong>lines, which are also avai<strong>la</strong>ble<br />

at the Institute of Geography’s Website.<br />

Manuscripts must be sent to the Technical<br />

Editor of Investigaciones Geográficas as a printed original<br />

with three copies, along with an indispensable<br />

digital version, to the following address:<br />

Submissions must inclu<strong>de</strong> a letter in which the<br />

author(s) confirm that the paper is an original study<br />

that has not been published or submitted to any<br />

other printed or electronic journal. This letter must<br />

be signed by all the authors of the paper.<br />

The maximum length of the papers must be 25<br />

letter-size pages printed with double spacing and a<br />

font size of 12 points, including spaces, main text,<br />

abstract, maps, tables, figures, graphs, boxes, notes<br />

and references.<br />

A separate sheet, not inclu<strong>de</strong>d in the 25 aforementioned<br />

pages, must indicate the title of the paper,<br />

full name of the author(s), affiliation, address,<br />

telephone numbers and email, all without abbreviations.<br />

No more information must be ad<strong>de</strong>d to<br />

this page.<br />

The title of the work must be inclu<strong>de</strong>d again<br />

in the first of the 25 pages that constitute the manuscript,<br />

although without the author(s)’name(s).<br />

Immediately afterwards, an abstract not longer<br />

than 200 words written in Spanish must be inclu<strong>de</strong>d,<br />

followed by another written in your choice of<br />

English, French or Portuguese <strong>la</strong>nguage. A maximum<br />

of six key words that appropriately suggest<br />

the nature of the work will be printed two lines<br />

below each of the abstracts.<br />

The headings referring to introduction, sections<br />

of the study, the sequence of all figures indicated<br />

throughout the text and conclusions, must be<br />

clearly indicated throughout the paper. If acknowledgements<br />

are inclu<strong>de</strong>d, these should not be<br />

longer than one paragraph and must be inserted<br />

after the conclusions and before the notes.<br />

The notes that appear along the main body of<br />

the text will be numbered consecutively. It is suggested<br />

to use a minimum amount of notes, which<br />

should be kept as short as possible.<br />

Maps, photographs and graphs will all be<br />

referred to as “Figures” and each one should be<br />

submitted in digital format in a separate file. If<br />

digital files are not avai<strong>la</strong>ble, the original figures<br />

should be submitted as “camera-ready” prints in<br />

separate letter-size sheets. Please number all figures.<br />

Tables must be numbered and referred to as<br />

“Tables”. Legends and figure captions or headings<br />

must be or<strong>de</strong>red in separate files. Photographs and<br />

raster files must have a resolution of at least 300<br />

dpi, with a size not less than 20 x 26 cm in TIFF<br />

format. Any other illustration should be sent in<br />

Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator or Freehand files. Files<br />

in Encapsu<strong>la</strong>ted Postscript (EPS) format are accepted<br />

as well. Maps should inclu<strong>de</strong> coordinates in <strong>de</strong>grees<br />

and minutes, a graphic scale and an explicit legend.<br />

The title must lie outsi<strong>de</strong> the margins of the map<br />

and should inclu<strong>de</strong> the source reference(s). In case<br />

of ancient photographs or images, the consent of<br />

use and printed reproduction granted to UNAM
