AbstractA brief description of the non destructive evaluation techniques most used inindustry and in the transport sector are presented in this work. In each case,several variations of these techniques are analyzed, putting emphasis on theiradvantages and disadvantages, and reviewing their use in a more extent contextthat includes design and the most common failure scenarios that could happen.In general, different classifications for the non destructive inspection techniquesare discussed, and the surface, volumetric and special techniques for bridgeinspection are described in detail.For the surface inspection techniques, the basic principles for visual, Eddy currentand magnetic particles are presented. For the volumetric, ultrasound, x ray andacoustic emission are analyzed. Finally, for the specific cases for bridge inspection,ground penetration radar, magnetoresistive sensors, corrosion sensors andelectromagnetic antennas are considered.XIII
