Section 72. Clean and remove the check plug from the side ofthe gearbox (See Figure 7-12). Visually check thatthe lubricant level is up to the bottom edge of thecheck plug hole. If lubricant is low, add SAE 80/90lubricant through the check plug hole in the gearboxuntil it is level with the bottom of the check plug hole.Install the check plug and tighten securely.B. Changing LubricantThe lubricant in the cutter deck gearbox should bechanged every 500 hours of operation or yearly,whichever occurs first.2. Visually check the coolant level. The coolant levelshould be up to the bottom of the filler neck asshown in Figure 7-13. Add a mixture of coolant andsoft water as needed.-NOTE-Refer to the coolant manuafacturer's instructionsfor the proper coolant mixture ratio.Fill to Bottom ofFiller Neck1. Place a suitable container beneath the cutter deckgearbox and locate the gearbox drain plug.2. Remove the drain plug and drain the lubricant intothe container and properly discard it.3. Re-install the drain plug and add EP-80/90 lubricantthrough the check plug hole in the gearbox until it islevel with the bottom of the check plug hole. Installthe check plug and tighten securely.7.12 COOLING SYSTEMWARNING:To avoid burns, always allow the engine tocool before removing the radiator cap.A. Checking Coolant LevelThe coolant level should be checked before each day ofoperation.1. Remove the radiator cap by turning it slowlycounterclockwise to the first stop and allow anypressure to be released. Push down on the cap andturn clockwise until it stops.-NOTE-The cooling system should be flushed andthe coolant replaced every 500 hours of operationor annually. See your <strong>Scag</strong> dealer forproper coolant replacement.B. Cleaning the Radiator Debris ScreenAfter each day of operation, remove and clean theradiator debris screen.CAUTION:To avoid personal injury, always wear safetyglasses when using compressed air.1. Pull the debris screen up to remove.2. Clean the debris screen with compressed air or awater hose.39
