AbstractNowadays, the automotive industry has become one of the most importantindustries in México; its importance relies on the social and economic effect thatcauses. In particular, the development of the auto parts industry in countries likeMexico is a phenomenon that must be consolidated.For this reason, it is important to know the operation of this industry, with theobjective to have judgment elements to establish efficient operation strategies forsupplying auto parts.On the matter, the present document is part of a comprehensive study that dealswith the “inventory coordination” in the supply chain, through the “Common EpochsReplenishment” (CER) strategy, and the different transport modes. Particularly, itsummarizes the most relevant aspects of the automotive industry and its supplychain; it identifies operative schemes of auto parts supplying, and offers acompendium of the national and international studies on the subject.The main objective is to look out the problematic environment around the supplyprocess of the auto parts companies like suppliers of the “first ring” companies inthe automotive industry, or assembler plants, located generally in differentcountries, in order to establish the scope of inventory coordination in this industry.vii
