Proyecto: Adaptación al Cambio Climático…UNEP/CAR/CRU4.3.Credit. One of the problems of local communities is the lack of cheap credit forinvesting in good practices. The project will work with local banks to develop greencredit package, CATIE has been working with an example of this credit system inNicaragua since 2007. Rural agricultural banks or institutions will be supported to investin green credit and to market environmental services generated with the investments ingreen credits as a way to have sustainability for financing credits.4.4.Green labeling of agricultural and forest products. The demand for organic andenvironmental friendly products has been increasing and there is also a tendency topromote purchases from poor communities. Farmers and communities will be organizedto market their products to reduce transaction cost for certification. An example is withcacao in tela, Puerto barrios and Bluefields.4.5.Agro-ECO- Tourism. In the three sites communities will be supported to establishfarms or communal sites to promote tourism as a means of increasing income generationof local communities. This will include the construction of corridors to see good farmingpractices, good management of water, and observation of biodiversity. Localcommunities will be involved in providing chain of services (food, souvenirs). Forexample, in the watershed of the Escobas in Guatemala and Tela, there are examples offarms with productive activities (sugar cane juice production) with potential for tourism5.0 Investments in sanitary and other services. It is evident that lack of sanitary utilities isa problem for conserving water quality and is related to high incidence of infant diseases. The project will support local communities in the upper watershed and in critical areasalong water sources to build sanitary services (latrines). Also it will provide support tolocal communities to develop prototypes of bio-digesters and Eco-ovens for smallfarmers and or communities. This will reduce the pressure on the use of forest reservesfor firewoodProducts (tentative):1. In each target site, integrated plan for management of watershed servicesactualized and are being implemented by the committee2. In each target site at least 25 plots (25 x 3 = 75 plots) will be established withgood agroforestry practices in the target communities3. A program for environmental education designed and is in the process ofimplementation in each of the target area4. A system for Payment of environmental services/ and or compensation forwatershed services designed and is in the process of implementation5. A proposal developed for marketing of carbon and biodiversity services6. At least three organizations of farmers-communities organized with legal status7. At least 10% of families in the target communities in each site have sanitaryservices (latrine); at least 10 prototypes of biodigestors established in each site63
