Trino, climbed up to Rocca Calascio and stopped in
beautiful villages such as Santo Stefano Di Sessanio
to try some local delicacies. One of the highlights
from these days was when we drove deeper into the
mountains for our lunch stop and the views were just
incredible. It is not hard to see why Abruzzo was the
setting for many Spaghetti Westerns. The mountains
became more dramatic, there were wild horses
roaming, it was a driver’s paradise. We turned up, at
what can only be described as a small barn, in the
middle of nowhere. Inside there was a butcher’s shop
with meat and cheese options. After our selections
were made, we headed outside to the barbeques and
cooked the famed arrosticini and it was delicious!
With our final day we went shopping around Pescara
and spent time relaxing on the beach before our
family holiday sadly came to an end. With jumped
on a direct flight back to London after the most
incredible week in Italy. With our mix of the city
break, adventure and beach time, this is honestly my
most favourite holiday I have ever had to date.
If you have any questions about Abruzzo, please do
let me know and I will be happy to help. It is truly a
secret gem in Italy which is perfect for those who are
maybe on their second or third trip to the country.
