A perfect copy in bright colouring in which 2 new plates, here published for the first time,<br />

were added (compared with the 1811 ed. by Didot or the 1819 new ed. by Guillaume Haas):<br />

N° 35 View of Pliniana & N° 36 View of Milan. The plate n° 2 (of the 1811 ed.) was here<br />

cancelled.<br />

Very fine & rare early English edition in delightful colouring. Engraved-map ‘Plan of the road<br />

of the Simplon’ bound as frontispice, signed H. Frost sculp. & 36 plates signed ‘Ackermann’<br />

with descriptive texts.<br />

Die sehr schön<strong>en</strong> Tafeln zeig<strong>en</strong> die Ansicht<strong>en</strong> der ‘Voyage pittoresque de G<strong>en</strong>ève à Milan par<br />

le Simplon’ (Paris, 1811) der beid<strong>en</strong> Lory. Unsere Ausgabe unterscheidet sich von der erst<strong>en</strong><br />

französisch<strong>en</strong> - vom ander<strong>en</strong> Format abgeseh<strong>en</strong>, - dadurch, dass die Tafel ‘Les eaux d’Amphion’<br />

(Mandach 173) ersetzt wurde durch die Ansicht<strong>en</strong> von ‘Pliniana’ und ‘Mailand’, die hier neu<br />

with views all hand-coloured + 1 map, some stains on the free <strong>en</strong>dpapers only,<br />

book cont<strong>en</strong>ts and plates exceptionally clean, some dust stains mainly in the<br />

margins, light occasional foxing, bound in original light brown clothbound,<br />

covers blindpressed, spine with title and ornam<strong>en</strong>ts gilt, top of spine rec<strong>en</strong>tly<br />

Première édition anglaise. Un bel album d’estampes sur l’Oberland. Très rare et très recherché.<br />

(cf. Perret sous Weibel). Perret m<strong>en</strong>tionne sous Lory, n° 2696: ‘Souv<strong>en</strong>irs de la Suisse...pour<br />

faire suite au Voyage Pittoresque dans l’Oberland Bernois’ sans pour autant m<strong>en</strong>tionner ‘le<br />

Voyage Pittoresque’, lui-même de 1822, et il confond, selon moi, 2 différ<strong>en</strong>tes éditions.<br />

First English edition in a beautiful publisher’s binding. Sev<strong>en</strong>te<strong>en</strong> hand-coloured aquatint views<br />

without signatures. The work is considered to be an English version of the work by Phil. Alb.<br />

Stapfer «Voyage pittoresque de l’Oberland ou Description ...» published in Paris, in- folio,1812,<br />

with 1 frontispice by Duncker and 14 coloured plates after G. Lory by S. Weibel which was<br />

also published in 1822 in Paris and Strasbourg. In this edition 11 views are by J.S. Weibel &<br />

6 by F. Schmid, F. Schutz, M. Wocher & G. Lory. But ‘Some of the plates in Ackermann's<br />

book, judging by the tit<strong>les</strong>, do not correspond with any in the Voyage Pittoresque, however’<br />

(Abbey Travel). Fine ‘bright’ coloured views of Swiss lakes, mountains, glaciers & towns.<br />

The map of the ‘Glaciers of the canton of Berne’ is bound at the beginning as a frontispiece.<br />
