inhabitants and their daily life in the city, from Pope to pauper, from the many religious<br />
processions and rites to the various <strong>en</strong>tertainm<strong>en</strong>ts such as horse races, bull fighting and ball<br />
games. Rather than roman sculptures and the remains of old temp<strong>les</strong>, Thomas drew in great<br />
detail the things he saw in the city during his stay at the villa Medici from November 1816<br />
to December 1818. Beggars, pilgrims, undertakers, merchants, missionaries. His work was<br />
lithographed by François le Villain in Paris and finely handcolored. The 44 p. of text are the<br />
author’s descriptions accompanying the plates. In a rec<strong>en</strong>t red half-morocco binding with<br />
