Our effective learner-centered approach:
• Our trainers use a functional and communicative learnercentered
approach. They create a dynamic and stimulating
environment where everyone is encouraged to participate
and learn.
• Our workshops are designed to give the participants the skills
and knowledge they require to achieve excellence in their
work environment.
• Our training is based on real situations that employees
experience at work. Our hands-on exercises often use
authentic examples drawn from our participants' own work,
from newspapers, official documents, Web sites and
government publications.
• To maximize the learning experience, our workshops are
limited to sixteen participants.

who are experts in their field and trained to meet the specific
needs of adult learners.
• Most of them hold a master's degree or a Ph.D. and have
many years of teaching experience.
• Many of them are bilingual and can therefore deliver our

The quality of our facilities and teaching tools:
• Most of our writing skills workshops are delivered in a
classroom equipped with computers connected to
the Internet.
• All participants receive a handbook that contains hands-on
exercises as well as the principles covered in the workshop.
This handbook becomes a great reference tool.

By the Numbers
Each year, the University of Ottawa’s Professional Training Service:
• trains close to 4 000 people
• gives over 150 on-campus workshops and over 125 customized
in-house workshops
• offers more than 500 days of training
The Professional Training Service has a team of 30 instructors and
a full-time administrative staff of eight.
