Swiss National Health Study<br />

The <strong>IUMSP</strong> (Dr Pedro Marques-Vidal and colleagues) is currently assessing trends,<br />

determinants and impact of obesity levels, and also trends in the prevalence and<br />

management of cardiovascular risk factors in the Swiss population. Two papers have<br />

been accepted for publication and others are in preparation.<br />

Can Tho road traffic accident registry (Vietnam)<br />

The <strong>IUMSP</strong> (Dr Pedro Marques-Vidal) participates in the analysis of the data<br />

pertaining to road traffic accidents in the city of Can Tho, Vietnam. This study is<br />

coordinated by the Morges hospital (Prof. E. Buchser) and the Emergency Department<br />

of the CHUV (Prof. B. Yersin). The objective is to improve management of severe<br />

traffic accidentees, namely by temporal and geographical analysis of data.<br />

Hyperlipidemia in ICU patients<br />

The <strong>IUMSP</strong> (Dr Pedro Marques-Vidal) participates in the analysis of the data<br />

regarding lipid trends among intensive care unit (ICU) patients of the CHUV<br />

(influence de l’apport de lipides exogènes sur le profil lipidique des patients de soins<br />

intensifs). This study is coordinated by Profs A. Pannatier and R. Chiolero. The<br />

objective is to assess the factors related to an increase in triglyceride levels among<br />

patients hospitalized in intensive care unit (ICU). The work will represent the Thesis<br />

of Pharmacist J.-C. Devaud.<br />

Quality of life in patients with primary superficial venous insufficiency<br />

The <strong>IUMSP</strong> (Dr Pedro Marques-Vidal) participates in the analysis of the data<br />

regarding quality of life in patients who had surgery or laser therapy for primary<br />

superficial venous insufficiency (responsible Dr Michèle Depairon, angiology unit of<br />

the PMU). The objective is to compare at one year follow-up the quality of life – as<br />

assessed by specific questionnaires – between patients treated by surgery and laser. A<br />

first article has been published and a second has been submitted.<br />

Repro<strong>du</strong>cibility of computerized tomography and computer assisted diagnosis software<br />

The <strong>IUMSP</strong> (Dr Pedro Marques-Vidal) participates in the analysis of the data on<br />

repro<strong>du</strong>cibility of CT of the ascending aorta, the Willis polygon and of liver metastasis<br />

(responsible Prof. S. Qanadli, radiology Department of the CHUV). One paper has<br />

been published and two others are in preparation.<br />

Predicting early arteriovenous graft occlusion with intraoperative blood flow measurement<br />

The <strong>IUMSP</strong> (Dr Pedro Marques-Vidal) participates in the analysis of the data on the<br />

life course of arteriovenous grafts. The study included 63 patients who had an<br />

arteriovenous graft and who were followed for a median time of 144 days. The<br />

objective is to assess the factors related to occlusion and revascularisation of the<br />

grafts. The responsibles are Prof. F. Saucy (Deparment of vascular surgery of the<br />

CHUV) and Dr D. Salomon. This work will represent the Thesis of Dr D. Salomon.<br />

Doping detection<br />

The <strong>IUMSP</strong> (Dr Pedro Marques-Vidal) participates in the analysis of the data on<br />

changes in hormonal status after growth hormone doping (responsible Dr N. Baume<br />

and E. Strahm, Swiss Laboratory for Doping Analyses). The objective is to define the<br />

best methods to identify doped athletes based on their "biological passport". This work<br />

will partly represent the Thesis of Mr. E. Strahm.<br />
