Monaco remains the anomaly: despite its grand
hotels presenting an equivalent calibre of service to
their quintuple-starred colleagues in France have,
administrative reasons have seen their rightful
ascendance delayed for several months.
In Saint-Tropez, both the Byblos, flagship establishment
of Group Floirat, and the Château de la
Messardière, the largest of the village’s luxury
hotels, have been recognised. Further along the
coast in Cannes, the legendary Martinez and the
Majestic Barrière with its new wing, can also now
append an additional star to their respective facades.
In Juan les Pins, while the Juana still awaits its classification,
the hotel Belles-Rives has now joined the
“Club des Cinq”, the ‘Club of Fives’.
In Nice, two neighbouring yet very different establishments
have both been recognised: the Négresco,
presently undergoing renovations, and the Palais
de la Méditerranée with its art deco facade.
Finally on the Saint Jean Cap Ferrat peninsula, the
recently expanded Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat, and
the Royal Riviera overlooking the Baie des Fourmis
(the Bay of Ants), are now both shining a little
brighter over the Mediterranean.
A list whose likely growth over the next months
underlines, if such is even necessary, the excellence
of the establishments that make up the Association
des Palaces de la Côte d’Azur.
Plus loin, à Cannes, le Majestic Barrière et sa
nouvelle aile ainsi que le mythique hôtel Martinez
peuvent également accrocher à leur fronton la
cinquième étoile. A Juan-les-Pins, en attendant le
classement du Juana, c’est l’hôtel Belles-Rives qui
est entré dans le “Club des Cinq”. À Nice, ce sont
deux grands voisins tellement différents qui ont été
récompensés : le Négresco, actuellement en travaux
de rénovation et le Palais de la Méditerranée et sa
façade art déco.
Enfin, sur la presqu’île de Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat,
le Grand Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat récemment agrandi
et le Royal Riviera, surplombant la Baie des Fourmis,
se sont eux aussi mis à briller un peu plus fort sur
la Méditerranée.
Une liste qui devrait encore s’allonger dans les mois
à venir, soulignant, s’il était besoin de le faire,
l’excellence des établissement de l’Association des
Palaces de la Côte d’Azur.
