1.2. PRESENTATION DES PROCEDES 1.2. PRESENTATION OF THE PROCESSES
Pour les aciers au carbone et inoxydable, le CITOPULS possède 2 types de short arc : CITOPULS has 2 types of short arc for carbon and stainless steels:
le short arc “doux” ou « lisse »
the “soft” short arc or “lisse”
le short arc « dynamique » ou « SSA ». the “dynamic” short arc or « SSA ».
Pulsed Mig is used on all metals (Steel, Stainless steel and Aluminium) with solid
wires and some cored wires. It is particularly suitable for Stainless steel and
aluminium since the elimination of spatter and the excellent wire fusion make it the
ideal process.
a. Le short arc “doux” ou “lisse” a. “Soft”or “lisse” short arc
The “soft” short arc provides a great reduction in spatter when welding carbon
steel. This results in a considerable reduction in finishing costs.
It improves the appearance of the joints thanks to better wetting of the molten pool
The “soft” short arc is suitable for welding in all positions. An increase in the wire feed
speed makes it possible to go into the spray arc mode but does not prevent switching
to the globular mode.
Note: the “soft” short arc is slightly more energetic than the dynamic short arc.
Consequently the “dynamic” short arc may be preferred to the soft short arc for
welding very thin sheet (≤ 1 mm) or for welding penetration passes.
b. “Dynamic” short arc or “Speed Short Arc” (SSA)
+ +
(SSA)
The dynamic short arc or “SSA” allows greater versatility in welding carbon and
stainless steels and absorbs variations in the welder’s hand movements, for example
when welding in difficult positions. It also helps to compensate for differences in the
workpiece preparation.
By increasing the wire feed speed the SA mode changes to the SSA mode
automatically, avoiding the globular mode.
Thanks to the speed of the arc control (wave form) made possible by transistors and
appropriate programming, CITOPULS welding sets artificially extend the Short Arc
domain to higher currents (see diagram): this is the domain of the speed short arc.
