500 - Special <strong>Use</strong> FacilitiesGeneralThis category includes several room use categories that are sufficiently specialized in their primaryactivity or function to merit a unique room code. Areas and rooms for military training, athleticactivity, media production, clinical activities (outside of separately organized health care facilities),demonstration, agricultural field activities, and animal and plant shelters are included here. Althoughmany of these special use facilities provide service to other areas, their special use or configurationdictates that these areas not be coded as service rooms.510 ArmoryDefinition: A room or area used by Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and ancillary unitsfor military training and/or instructional activities.Description: <strong>Room</strong>s that are obviously designed or equipped for use in a military training orinstructional program, such as indoor drill areas, indoor rifle ranges, and specially designed orequipped military science rooms, are included in this category. Ancillary units may includespecial rifle and drill teams.Limitations: Conventional room use types such as Classrooms (110), Class Laboratories (210),Offices (310), and Study <strong>Room</strong>s (410) are designated as such, even though they are located inan armory building. Military supply and weapons rooms are coded Armory Service (515).515 Armory ServiceDefinition: A room that directly serves an armory facility as an extension of the activities inthat facility.Description: This category includes supply rooms, weapons rooms, and military equipmentstorage rooms.Limitations: <strong>Room</strong>s directly serving conventional primary activity areas are classified with theappropriate corresponding service code (e.g., 115-Classroom Service, 215-Class LaboratoryService, 315-Office Service, and 455-Study Service).520 Athletic Or Physical EducationDefinition: A room or area used by students, staff, or the public for athletic or physical educationactivities.Description: Includes gymnasia, basketball courts, handball courts, squash courts, wrestlingrooms, weight or exercise rooms, racquetball courts, indoor swimming pools, indoor puttingareas, indoor ice rinks, indoor tracks, indoor stadium fields, and field houses.
