900 - Residential FacilitiesGeneralResidential facilities include housing for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the institution. Hotel ormotel and other guest facilities are included in this series if they are owned or controlled by theinstitution and used for purposes associated with defined institutional missions (i.e., excludingcommercial investment).Note: Not all space in residential facilities is coded using the 900 series. Conventional primary activityand service codes, as with libraries, apply to specific areas. Included are Offices (310), Lounges (650),Study <strong>Room</strong>s (410), dining areas (see 630), recreational rooms (see 670), and their correspondingservice codes. Service rooms that typically appear in residential facilities are specified in theSleep/Study Service (935) description.910 Sleep/Study Without Toilet Or BathDefinition: A residential room for one or more individuals typically furnished with bed(s),wardrobe(s), closet(s), desk(s), and chair(s), without an internally connected bath, toilet, oreither.Description: Includes single or multiple sleep/study rooms. A sleep/study facility may be aroom for combined sleep/study, a room exclusively for sleeping, or a room for living and study.Connected closets are considered part of the room.Limitations: Study rooms for general use, available and open to the dormitory residents atlarge, and not part of bedroom or sleeping room suites, should be classified as Study <strong>Room</strong>(410). Residential quarters equipped with internal cooking facilities are coded Apartment(950). Separate food preparation rooms serving sleep/study areas, including small kitchensused by the occupants, are coded Sleep/Study Service (935) unless there is an accompanyingeating area (see 630) that the food preparation area directly serves. The appropriate servicecode of 635 would then be applied.919 Toilet Or BathDefinition: A toilet or bathroom intended only for the occupants of the residential facilities,rather than for the public.Description: Includes common or shared bathroom facilities which may consist of full or halfbath,shower, or toilet and shower combinations, used by the residents and accessible from acorridor or other general circulation area.Limitations: Does not include public rest rooms. Bathrooms internal to a sleep/study room(see 920), Apartment (950), or House (970) are included in those respective categories.82 CHAPTER 5
