Page 7STORAGEUnits must be stored in a warm, dry location, free ofdust or air borne contaminants. The relative humidityto which the electrical insulation materials are exposedshould be kept as low as practical. It is preferred tostore in warm dry location to avoid moisture issuesbut may be able to be stored in temperature to -40°C(104°F). Transformer may be energized when thecoil temperature is as low as -25°C (-13°F) but it isrecommended they not be loaded until the coils reach0°C (32°F). Fluctuating temperatures can causecondensation issues requiring a Dry-Out procedure. The floor on which the transformer is stored shouldbe impervious to the upward migration of water vapor.Take precaution to guard against water from anysource such as roof leaks, broken water or steamlines, windows, etc. It is not recommended that drytypeunits be stored outdoors. If that is unavoidable, units must be well protected from snow, rain and otherelements. Protection should include an initial wrapof first quality canvas with a final outside covering ofplastic tarpaulin. It would also be desirable to include adesiccant such as a silica gel dry-out system to reducethe moisture content inside the assembly. If units arestored outdoors, dry-out is recommended as describedon the following page.INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS(1) It is recommended that anti-vibration pads orother vibration isolation devices be present wheninstalling dry-type transformer. Some dry-typetransformers may have pre-installed anti-vibrationpads or other vibration isolation devices. Most oftime the anti-vibration pads are provided with theSHIPPINGHOOKSdry-type transformers and need to be installedon site. When installing the anti-vibration padsbeneath transformer base beam, ensure thatlifting the transformer by core & coil only. If theenclosure is provided and attached to the core& coil by shipping angles, make sure that theshipping hooks and shipping angles are removedin all locations (see figure 9 and 10) and then liftthe transformer by core & coil only to install theanti-vibration pads (or other vibration isolationsrequired per design).SHIPPINGANGLESFIGURE 9ANTIVIBRATIONPADS(IN FINAL LOCATION)FIGURE 10ANTIVIBRATION PADS(SHIPPED WITH TRANSFORMER)(2) Cable type, size and entry location shall confirm toLocal Electrical Code.(3) Terminals and terminal board shall not be used tosupport the weight of supply or load cables.(4) Maintain the appropriate clearance betweensupply cables and live parts of transformer basedon system voltages.
