He recalled that the Fund had just celebrated its 60th Anniversary; anindication of its longevity. As a defined benefit fund, the Fund is a long-term entity with long-termcommitments. It is managed in a long-term perspective.The volatile market conditions had of course had an effect on the fund whose assets had beenreduced from an all-time high of $ 42 billion in October 2007 to $ 29 billion in March 2009. There wasno need for panic nor for hasty changes. He emphasized that the Fund was solvent, there was noproblem of liquidity. Contributions from participants were sufficient to meet pension payments.1 The President of the Polling Officers, Sébastien Martinek announced that there were nine candidates for thenine vacant positions in the Committee.
