When you read the second number of Sundays you will
understand that life in a hotel means much more than simply
welcoming guests for a few days’ holiday.
When you meet the O’Keeffes at the Sugar Beach you will
see how their annual holiday in Mauritius has become, over
the years, a very special moment which reinforces their sense
of family. With Chef Mauree and his team at
the Sugar Beach, or at the Givenchy Spa at Touessrok,
you will realize that a hotel is also a place where unique and
sophisticated skills and know-how are brought into play.
A hotel may also be the scene of beautiful partnerships
such as that of the starred chefs Michel Rostang and
Michel Chabran of La Pirogue, or the meeting with the
German painter Wolfgang Loesche at Touessrok and
the Kanuhura.
A hotel is also a place which is open to the environment
and the society around it. Gerald Rambert’s magnificent
underwater photographs and the story of a kayaking
expedition among the mangroves in the north-east will, I
hope, be an invitation to discover the island. And, finally,
through the account of our day at the races we are in
fact sharing with you a two-centuries old tradition which
fascinates thousands of Mauritians every week-end at the
Champs de Mars, the oldest race-course in the southern
hemisphere.

comprendrez que la vie d’un hôtel est bien plus que le

de vacances. A la rencontre des O’Keeffe au Sugar Beach,

s’expriment des savoir-faire uniques et sophistiqués. Un hôtel

notre reportage sur les courses hippiques à l’île Maurice,
nous partagerons enfin avec vous une tradition doublement
centenaire qui passionne des milliers de Mauriciens chaque
week-end au Champs de Mars, le plus vieil hippodrome de
l’hémisphère Sud.

Ambre on its way
Renovation works have started at Ambre hotel, in Palmar, on
the east coast. Ambre, a four-star, 297 rooms hotel located
on one of the most beautiful stretch of white sand beach of
Mauritius, will open in October 2012.
The new Sun Resorts hotel will offer to its future guests an
easy-going feel, where island living can be experienced at
its best. Interior decorators are bringing in a fresh tropical
experience; optimised use of space is also important,
with importance given to landscaping. But the major feature
of the hotel is a stunning 700-metres long white natural
sandy beach running along a sheltered bay...
C’est parti ! Les travaux de rénovation ont débuté à l’hôtel
Ambre, à Palmar, sur la côte est. Ambre, hôtel 4 étoiles de
297 chambres situé sur une des plus belles plages de l’île,
ouvrira ses portes en octobre 2012. Ce nouvel hôtel du groupe
Sun Resorts proposera un style de vie insulaire, tropical et
décontracté à ses futurs clients. Les décorateurs mettent
l’accent sur des couleurs fraîches et gaies ; une utilisation
optimisée de l’espace et feront aussi la part belle
à la végétation.
Mais l’atout majeur d’Ambre est sa magnifique plage
de 700 mètres qui borde un lagon protégé…

As years pass by, Le Touessrok still wins praise from around
the world, as prove three of its latest awards. The Sun Resorts
flagship has won The Leading Hotels of The World Quality
Award. The reputable hotel organisation thus recognises the
commitment of Le Touessrok to Quality. Le Touessrok’s own
island-set golf course has been awarded the Golf Resort of
The Year award of Diners Club magazine, Germany.
Finally, Le Touessrok has been honoured in the 2012
TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Hotel Awards, being one of the
‘Top 25 Luxury Hotels in Africa’ and ‘Top 25 Relaxation & Spa
Hotels in Africa’ categories.
