Sono stati aperti <strong>in</strong> totale 93 saggi nelle<br />
strade e nelle piazze del centro storico nel<br />
periodo luglio 1998 - <strong>di</strong>cembre 2003, cui<br />
vanno aggiunti gli scavi nelle chiese <strong>di</strong> S.<br />
Gherardo e S. Pietro. La se<strong>di</strong>mentazione<br />
non <strong>in</strong>dagata è ancora conservata per futuri<br />
<strong>in</strong>terventi <strong>di</strong> ricerca mirati al<strong>la</strong> soluzione <strong>di</strong><br />
specifiche domande storiografiche.<br />
La superficie del centro storico <strong>in</strong>terna<br />
al circuito delle mura me<strong>di</strong>cee è <strong>di</strong><br />
149.955 mq, <strong>di</strong> cui 43.273 sono le aree<br />
aperte oggetto del nostro <strong>in</strong>tervento,<br />
pari al 28,9%. Di queste sono stati<br />
<strong>in</strong>dagati complessivamente 4.805 mq.<br />
che corrispondono all’11,1% delle aree<br />
aperte e al 3,2% dell’<strong>in</strong>tero centro<br />
storico. Il paleosuolo è stato raggiunto<br />
<strong>in</strong> 47 punti.<br />
