Presepe Vivente
Il centro storico di Tarquinia si trasforma in un grande palcoscenico all’aperto. Oltre 200 comparse, in costume
d’epoca, prendono parte all’evento che coinvolge tutta la città. Realizzato in due dei quartieri più antichi del
centro storico, quello di San Martino e San Giacomo, l’antico Terziere del Poggio, è basato su una ricostruzione
degli ambienti e delle situazioni del I secolo d.C. in Israele. Tarquinia diventa una piccola Betlemme. Banchi di
legno, paglia, iuta e stoffe costituiscono gli elementi per la creazione di situazioni tipiche di quel tempo: il mercato
delle merci e del bestiame, la vendita degli schiavi, il censimento, la locanda. Presso Campo Cialdi inoltre
viene ricreato un grande accampamento romano con tende, cavalli, bighe, legionari in allenamento. Il giorno
dell’Epifania, il 6 gennaio, i tre magi, accompagnati da tre veri cammelli, raggiungono la location del Presepe
Vivente, attraversando la città con una grande corteo al quale partecipano tutte le comparse.

Tarquinia’s historical center comes alive with the celebration of the coming of christ. Over 200 stand-ins dressed
in period costume parade the cobblestone streets reenacting the miraculous event. The event is exhibited in two
of the oldest parts of town, San Martino, San Giovanni, the old ‘Terziere del Poggio. Tarquinia is transformed into
a first century AD scene of little Bethlehem, Israel with wooden benches, straw, jute, wooden carriages, open
markets of goods and livestock, the slave market, the census, antique Inns and all the traditional accouterments
of a time past. At Campo Cialdi there is a re-created scene of a Roman Legions encampment made of large
tents, chariots, war horses and soldiers practicing for battle. On January 6th, the Epiphany, citizens dressed as
the three kings accompanied by live camels, mules and a court of period costume stand-ins parade the streets
arriving at the manger where the new born Jesus lays in swaddling.
