Le origini dell’Università Agraria vanno ricercate in quella che, nel tardo medioevo italiano, era la realtà delle Arti
e delle Corporazioni. Tra il XIV e XV secolo è attestata la presenta di due importanti Arti: quella degli Ortolani,
documentabile sin dal 1379, anno della redazione dello Statuto, e quella dei Lavoratori del frumento e proprio
nell'Arte dei lavoratori del frumento vanno rintracciate le origini di quella che oggi è l'Università Agraria. (vedi
pag. 53 Palazzo Vipereschi). L’Università Agraria, viene identificata con “la Roccaccia”, così denominata per la
presenza del castello medievale di Rocca Giorgii o Jorii.
The 'Agricultural University’ was founded in the late medieval period, and was conceived by the Arts Guild. During
the 14th and 15th century it gave presidence to two major guilds - that of the farmers, documented in 1379, the
year the Statute was drawn up and the wheat farmers guild. The Agricultural University was founded upon the
principles of the farm workers‘ rights. (See page Vipereschi Palace 53). The 'Agricultural University’ became
associated with the "Roccaccia", so named for the presence of the medieval castle of Rocca Giorgio or Jorii.
Centro Aziendale/Business Centre
La Roccaccia è il Centro Aziendale operativo dell’Ente ed è il luogo dove le antiche tradizioni rivivono: ettari di
bosco ceduo, cavalli e vacche maremmane allo stato brado, monta riproduttiva equina e vaccina.
The Roccaccia is the agricultural centre of Operations and is the place where ancient traditions are kept alive.
The land includes acres of woodlands, free-ranging Maremmano livestock, horse riding and cattle breeding.
