Processione del Cristo Risorto
La domenica di Pasqua si celebra la Processione del “Cristo che corre”. Per le vie della città viene trasportata a
passo spedito, quasi di corsa e tra due ali di folla, una pregiata statua del Cristo Risorto. La Statua fu commissionata
dalla Corporazione dei Falegnami. Si narra che per ricordare la Risurrezione, venne dato l’incarico ad uno scultore
che stava scontando una pena a vita, di scolpire nel legno un Cristo Risorto, superiore in bellezza a quanti già ne
esistevano. Narra ancora la leggenda che, per impedire all’artista di fare, in seguito, una nuova Statua identica a
quella scolpita o anche più bella, venisse spietatamente accecato. Apre la Processione la squadra degli Sparatori, i
fucili dei quali sono caricati a salve con coriandoli. Una componente originale di questa processione è quella dei
portatori dei Tronchi, delle grandi Croci con ghirlanda. Si tratta di croci il cui peso si aggira dai settantacinque ai
novantacinque chili. Di notevole altezza (la più grande raggiunge circa 5 metri) il loro trasporto richiede una notevole
abilità e forza per non essere sbilanciati durante il trasporto. E’ una dimostrazione di forza, di abilità e di resistenza.
Procession of Christ’s Resurrection
On Easter Sunday the procession of "Christ’s Resurrection” is celebrated. A statue of the resurrected Christ is
paraded through the crowded streets of Tarquinia. The statue was commissioned by the Carpenters Guild. The
task was given to a sculptor who was serving a life sentence in prison. His task was to create a wooden sculpture
of a resurrected Christ, more beautiful than any seen before. Legend has it, that after the realization of the
statue, the sculptor was blinded to prevent him from creating any like statues. The procession is opened by the
“Sparatori” team, shooting confetti; followed by the giant crosses made from tree trunks. It takes considerable skill
and months of training of the selected trunk carriers for the crosses can be up to 5 meters (16 ft) tall and weigh
from 70 to 90 kilos (154 to198 lbs) each. It’s a show of strength, skill and endurance and considered a great
honor amongst the citizens of Tarquinia. The Statue is housed in the church ‘San Giuseppe’. The church is only
open on one day a year, Easter Sunday, when the statue is paraded around the town for the celebration then
returns to its berth where it remains until the next Easter Sunday.
