A Shocking Story
Alfie Pattens became dad at
12 years old. Alfie’s girlfriend,
Chantelle Steadman,
gave birth to Maisie Roxanne.
He told that to have a
baby is very beautiful, but he
can’t afford her!
The story took another shocking
when “DNA test” seemed
to prove that Alfie was not
the “boy-dad”. It was another
teen! Chantelle’s mum can
now ask nearly £30.000 a
year in childcare benefits
from the British Government.
Very important to remember
is that price of teen parenthood
is high: babies have
60% high risk of dying, and
mothers are three time more
likely to suffer from postnatal.
Another big problem is
to keep one’s family. For
example, Alfie’s parents are
separated and his dad has
other kids. Chantelle’s parents
survive only on state
benefits.
It’s irresponsible to have a child when you are too young!
What should Institutions do?
We think that the institutions should increase the lessons about sex education. For example at School, at Home, on
TV, on the Radio and Internet.
Sex education should be taught informally, such as when someone receives information by a father or mother,
friends, religious leader or through the media. Formal sex education occurs when schools or health care providers
offer sex education. The Institutions should talk about risks, diseases and to face the consequences of the next
years for teenagers.
