Hotel Asolo
This building, which was used as an agricultural business, is
now a hotel, thanks to the Dussin family, safeguarding it as
an historical site.
Its origins go back in history: Formerly it was part of the bishops
of Treviso’s assets, located close to the Administration centre
called “Ca’ Vescovo. This land was then assigned to the “Cesana”,
known as Basilia, who then had the rural site built.
Basilio (1466-1527) was given the land from the bishop, paying
a small annual amount. Giacomo, Basilio’s son, was a
brilliant lawyer in Venice, where descendants resided. At
Giacomo’s death in 1559, succeeded by Basilio and then by
another Giacomo, Laura Cesana’s father. Laura married Vincenzo
Negri, a Veneto citizen, whose family was part of the
“Ministerial body” of the Serenissima and took up prestigious
roles as the Senate’s secretary and Senate’s lawyer.
In 1692 Ottavia of Vincenzo Negri and Laura increased the
family assets by inheriting “Villa Varda” of Brugnera in the
Friuli region, part of the Mazzolini estate.
Their presence in Asolo had little impact because of their
lengthy stays in Venice.
The estate in Asolo remained part of the Negri property for
about a century, until 1738, when the assets were separated
between the last two Negri members, one who married Licini:
the new estate becoming Licini-Negri.
These descendants remained for about a century: from October
1858, this inheritance was taken over by Marchese
Giovanni Buzzacarini (1818-1883) who married Caterina
Monza, widow Raselli (1812-1890), the mother of Antonio,
mayor of Asolo and Giacomo’s grandmother (1879-1960)
who created a part of the museum with relics which belonged
to the illustrious actress Eleonora Duse.
