The Raselli<br />
The Raselli family arrived in <strong>Asolo</strong> in the last decade of the<br />
nineteenth century, led by the widow Caterina Monza, then<br />
re-married to Marquis Giovanni Buzzaccarini. With them<br />
came Antonio's family (1848, Vicenza - 1903, <strong>Asolo</strong>), which<br />
included his wife Maria Colbacchini and their two sons Giovanni<br />
(1871, Padua) and Giacomo (1879, Padua). Their<br />
estate included the house that is now the <strong>Asolo</strong> <strong>Hotel</strong>.<br />
Antonio was mayor of <strong>Asolo</strong> at the beginning of the twentieth<br />
century, and Giacomo soon took up a career in politics. As<br />
president of the <strong>Asolo</strong> Hospital he opened a new site at Forestuzzo<br />
and as Podestà (1923-1940) introduced many new<br />
ideas to the town: new junior schools opposite the Malipiero<br />
dwelling, the new Duse Theatre, he encouraged the construction<br />
of the boarding school run by the Dorothea nuns, a new<br />
loggia in the town square, next to the Duomo, the enlargement<br />
of the St. Anna Cemetery, widening of the roads leading into<br />
the town, and set up three new nurseries. From the cultural<br />
point of view, he paid great homage to Eleonora Duse and<br />
created <strong>Asolo</strong> as a point of reference for the famous actress.<br />
Restructuring and re-organization of the houses he owned,<br />
including the extension of the one that became the <strong>Asolo</strong> <strong>Hotel</strong>,<br />
are his work. In 1910 Giacomo married Maria Mercede<br />
Bolasco Piccinelli, and the couple had three daughters.<br />
The Cesana poet in 1652<br />
Count Antonio Cesana was born at <strong>Asolo</strong> in 1625 and became<br />
a celebrity there in the 17th century, because he was<br />
Chancellor of the Community of <strong>Asolo</strong>, and because he prepared<br />
the initial deeds for the 1717 cadastral survey.<br />
His notary registers contain a great many curious facts with<br />
historical notes, mottos and poems.<br />
