The Raselli
The Raselli family arrived in Asolo in the last decade of the
nineteenth century, led by the widow Caterina Monza, then
re-married to Marquis Giovanni Buzzaccarini. With them
came Antonio's family (1848, Vicenza - 1903, Asolo), which
included his wife Maria Colbacchini and their two sons Giovanni
(1871, Padua) and Giacomo (1879, Padua). Their
estate included the house that is now the Asolo Hotel.
Antonio was mayor of Asolo at the beginning of the twentieth
century, and Giacomo soon took up a career in politics. As
president of the Asolo Hospital he opened a new site at Forestuzzo
and as Podestà (1923-1940) introduced many new
ideas to the town: new junior schools opposite the Malipiero
dwelling, the new Duse Theatre, he encouraged the construction
of the boarding school run by the Dorothea nuns, a new
loggia in the town square, next to the Duomo, the enlargement
of the St. Anna Cemetery, widening of the roads leading into
the town, and set up three new nurseries. From the cultural
point of view, he paid great homage to Eleonora Duse and
created Asolo as a point of reference for the famous actress.
Restructuring and re-organization of the houses he owned,
including the extension of the one that became the Asolo Hotel,
are his work. In 1910 Giacomo married Maria Mercede
Bolasco Piccinelli, and the couple had three daughters.
The Cesana poet in 1652
Count Antonio Cesana was born at Asolo in 1625 and became
a celebrity there in the 17th century, because he was
Chancellor of the Community of Asolo, and because he prepared
the initial deeds for the 1717 cadastral survey.
His notary registers contain a great many curious facts with
historical notes, mottos and poems.
