In 1927, Freya Stark went to the Orient (Far East) organising<br />
expeditions to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Persia and Arabia. During<br />
the Second World War, she was in Yemen and Egypt where<br />
she created a secret (clandestine) propaganda network called<br />
“Fratellanza.”<br />
At the age of 88, she concluded her final expedition to Nepal.<br />
She died in May 1993, just after her 100th birthday. Her tomb<br />
is at the cemetery St. Anna, close to that of Eleonora Duse.<br />
