corresponding fuel consumption of just 500
litres per hour. This also contributes to the
boat having a range of over 400 nautical
miles. The stabilizing system of Ettore M. is
based on surface piercing foils in a tandem
configuration. Each foil is fitted with flaps
monitored centrally on the bridge.
Used on the Trapani−Pelagie Islands
route, Ettore M. transported over 50,000
passengers in its first year of operation.
This is the fourth Foilmaster and the twelfth
vessel to become part of the Ustica Lines
fleet, which is one of the youngest in the
Mediterranean, with an average age of
less than ten years.
Ustica Lines S.p.A. is a shipping company
specializing in fast sea transport that has
been operating for nine years in Italian
and international routes and has now
become established in the sector.
Founded in Trapani, Italy in 1993 by Captain
Vittorio Morace, Ustica Lines started
operating in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea
on the routes linking Naples, Ustica, Favignana,
Trapani, Pantelleria, and Kelibia
(Tunisia). Over the past decade the com-
pany has continually sought to expand its
activities through a fleet expansion and,
consequently, an increase in the number
of routes served.
In 2001 Ustica Lines started operations
outside of Sicily with the hydrofoil Calarossa,
on the route between Trieste and
Pula in Croatia. In addition, in 2002 other
new international routes were started such
as the link with Venice, the major ports of
Istria, the island of Mali Lošinj (Croatia),
and regular services in the Canary Islands.
For these new routes, two additional
fast ships Vittoria M. and Gianluca M.
were acquired.
By constantly updating their fleet with
technologically advanced vessels,
Ustica Lines has become known in the
fast passenger transport sector for the
high standard of service they offer their
customers who increasingly choose to
ride with them because of their efficiency,
safety, and comfort. The contributing
factors to the company’s successes are the
quality of service, their excellent record of
punctuality, reliability and, quite obviously,
the speed of their ships.
