A matter of style
After more than twenty

of it in the aviation field,
Airnaval is fitting out not
only the fast ferries built
by Rodriquez Cantieri
Navali but also the yachts
built by Conam and
Rodriquez Yachts, as well
as some cruise ships.
founded over twenty years ago through
the entrepreneurial spirit of the Sangiovanni
brothers, Airnaval sums up their
mission in their name. They are active in
the shipbuilding and other industrial sectors
but they also have experience in the
aviation field. By applying the latest technologies
to each of these sectors and have
a core group of specialized personnel, they
are able to provide on-the-spot solutions to
customer’s needs.
Located in Nola, in the province of Naples,
the Airnaval factory occupies a site
of 6,000 square meters, of which 3,000
square meters is covered.
In 1989 the firm started working in the
shipbuilding sector, specializing in fitting
out fast ships, ferries, hydrofoils, catama-
rans, and yachts. Its customers have included
such shipping companies as Lauro,
SNAV, Caremar, NCS, and Navigazione
Libera del Golfo. Their light, medium,
and heavy steel and aluminum structure
assembly shops are able to meet all the
out fitting needs not only of large ships but
also of medium-size and large yachts. With
their carpentry shop, they are capable of
undertaking all types of woodworking
projects, including detailed forms and finishing
details with their skilled workforce
of fifty carpenters.
Airnaval uses innovative materials to satisfy
the increasingly sophisticated outfitting
requirements including more demanding
regulations for both commercial ships
and pleasure boats. In addition to their
production capabilities, Airnaval provides
full support at the design stage through
their style center and technical department
where two naval architects are able to provide
owners the solutions to any number of
situations that may arise.
Very strict ship’s safety regulations impose
a number of limits on the use of materials
which may otherwise be acceptable
on a yacht. In either situation, precise
tolerances are ensured through the use
of a highly sophisticated water-jet cutting
machine capable of cutting through steel

plates up to 150 millimeters thick and with
a high degree of precision. For wood working,
a three-dimensional lathe allows even
the most complicated of operations to be
undertaken whilst the beading machines
and upholsterers allow the fabric and
soft material operations to be carried out
in-house.
The production times are usually short,
“We were able to complete the interior
of an 84-meter Aquastrada, the TMV 84
Ramon Llull (see Rodriquez Quarterly, no.
1, October 2003) in only four months,”
Airnaval’s Managing Director, Carmine
Sangiovanni, says with great pride, “and
are able to fit out a yacht in less than three
months. For the Conam 75 WideBody, for
instance, we managed to complete the
provisional outfitting in less than thirty
working days for the Genoa Boat Show. A
record!” This flexibility, together with the
skill and great precision as exemplified in
the finished product, and the assembly on
board the yacht, are some of Airnaval’s
strong points.
