NEWS DEVELOPMENTS AUGUSTA CABINETS & CASEWORK EXPANDS Cabinetmaker Augusta Cabinets & Casework has announced plans to expand its Evans, GA, operation with a 25,000-square-foot addition. The firm intends to use this expansion to not only improve the quality of its products, but also increase production capacity. “In addition to this new space we will also add new, stateof-the-art production machinery,” said Frankie Jordan, COO for Augusta Cabinets & Casework. Augusta Cabinets & Casework is a manufacturer of custom architectural woodwork, including premium-grade cabinets and casework for the healthcare, dining and hotel industries. The company recently put out a call for cabinetmakers looking to join their company, as it looks to expand the size of its production. GRANT TO HELP CRAFTMASTER EXPAND FURTHER Officials with the North Carolina Department of Commerce recently announced that a 0,000 building renovation grant has been awarded to Craftmaster Furniture, located in Alexander, NC, to assist with the company’s latest renovation project at Plant 4. Craftmaster Furniture is a manufacturer of living room furniture, including coffee and end tables, chairs, sofas and loveseats. The company uses Hardwoods such as Cherry and Oak in production of its products. At least 30 jobs are to be created as part of the grant’s rules. Craftmaster Furniture is itself investing .7 million in the project, bringing the project’s total investment to million. According to a commissioner for Alexander County, the local unemployment rate went from 14.7 percent just a few years ago, to 4.5 percent recently, due in part to Craftmaster Furniture setting up shop in an empty facility three years ago.
