Brewco’s Vice President, Bill Hendrix, gave a presentation, which included a video example of the system’s abilities. This presentation took place at a recent Lumbermen’s Club of Memphis luncheon at the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA), located here. NHLA Executive Director Lorna Christie was in attendance. In addition to the Lumbermen’s Club members, the NHLA’s current inspector training class was also present. Brewco’s upgrades include an increase in the machine’s in-feed speed to allow for a near seamless continuation of production without lengthy gaps between cants being processed. While the first cant is being cut, the next in line is moved into place right behind it. The out-feed is similarly sped up to allow more time for the sorter on the other end to do its job. A “for instance” scenario was illustrated during Hendrix’s presentation using 4/4 lumber production as an example. With recent log prices as a gauge, three logs were run through the improved B 1600 system and an increased yield equal to approximately a log was seen. This system also decreases waste products, therefore increasing yield.
