Garezers’ own „playwright-in-residence” Andra Berkolda returns with a romantic comedy about two
young men -one in the modern world, the other on a traditional Latvian farmstead - looking for wives.
The play is based on two short stories by well-known 19th century Latvian author Rudolfs Blaumanis
and features over 150 actors and dancers from each of Garezers' summer educational programs.

This summer Garezers’ O. Grina Folk Art Museum will mark its 40th anniversary. The collection has been gradually
accumulated through the years, largely from families donating jewelry, textiles, woodwork and other heirlooms
that they carried out of Latvia when they fled during World War II. Today the collection is the largest outside of
Latvia, featuring priceless pieces that provide an important cultural link to our Latvian heritage. Please stop in and
look at the collection, which
includes 123 pairs of Latvia’s famous hand-knit mittens!
Next door at the Klinklava Art Gallery, the summer season will begin on June 18 with the opening of an exhibit of
drawings and paintings by Lelde Kalmite. The daughter of iconic Latvian emigre painter Janis Kalmite, she is herself
an accomplished artist, academic and art community professional. She describes her work as representing an “illogical
combination: somber and apocalyptic visions on the one hand, and happy garden and animal drawings on
the other.”
During Garezers’ Culture Days on July 22-24, the Gallery will host an Art Market, where participants will have the
opportunity to buy and sell works of art on commission. If you are interested in submitting artwork, please see the
