Abstract
Objective
This study analysis the effect of Medical Taping on patients with infantile and juvenile
idiopathic scoliosis.
Methods
A literature research and a pilot study were used to analyse the effects of medical
taping. In this study three subjects with infantile of juvenile idiopathic scoliosis were
taped. The subjects were analysed by rasterstereographical measurement (Diers
formetric 4D).
Results
The results of this study show that Medical Tape has an effect on scoliosis. This effect
can both be positive and negative but seems difficult to handle. One of three subjects
showed correction concerning the scoliosis whereas in the other two subjects the
reference measurement, their posture without tape intervention, showed the best
results.
Conclusion
This study shows that Medical Taping can be used in idiopathic scoliosis treatment. To
give an purposeful evidence-based pratice treatment further research must be made.
These studies should be focused on both the intermuscular procces in idiopathic
scoliosis and the effect of Medical Tape on the skeletal muscles.
