inviting researchers in related areas of expertise for the annual meeting of theEuropean scientific advisory board in order to exchange thoughts and find innovativeand promising new research projects. The main task of the participating parent organizations will be to determine the maximumamount of funds they (wish to) have available for that particular call. This amount should be areasonable estimate of the funds the parent organizations have or will have available by thetime the grant(s) is/are awarded. Please note that this does not mean that the full amount willactually be awarded in case of one or more grants. Whether or not the full available amountwill be awarded, will depend on the number of research projects which are awarded a grantand the total amount of the funds required for the relevant projects. For the first two years (2014-2015) the participating parent organizations have determinedthat the maximum amount of the available funds for the first call will be at least an amount of€ 200,000. Please note that if other European parent organizations join our initiative, thismay lead to an increase of the aforementioned amount. After the participating parent organizations decided to which project(s) the grant(s) will beawarded, the participating parent organizations could start raising funds with reference to thespecific projects which have been awarded a grant. To this end, the general terms andconditions concerning a call will include a provision on the basis of which – by sending in anapplication – an applicant gives its consent in respect of the participating parentorganizations using his research project for fundraising activities as per the moment therelevant applicant is awarded a grant. In other words, the amount of available fundsdetermined by the participating parent organizations will serve as an advance payment, which can be regained by the funds raised afterwards.IV.DSteps during the application periodThe application will start by setting-up a call for funding of research projects. This call - whichpreferably should be drawn-up by the European scientific advisory board and checked(marginally) by the participating parent organizations - should contain (among others) thefollowing information:the maximum amount of the available funds;the aforementioned cornerstones;the duration of the application period;the requirements concerning the application (such as the length and contents of theapplication);a brief explanation of the two-step-application-process (see below). As mentioned above, the application process can be divided into two separate stages. In thefirst stage researchers may apply with respect to the call by sending in a brief application(maximum of two pages) concerning the general set-up of the project as well as the specificaims, the required funding and an overview of the researchers that would be involved in thespecific project. After this first application period has lapsed, the European scientific advisory board willdetermine on the basis of (among others) the aforementioned cornerstones if one or moreapplicants are invited to send in a more detailed application, in which they elaborate on thedetails of the envisaged research project. By the end of this second application period, theEuropean scientific advisory board will determine once again which of the (more detailed)applications is eligible for funding by the participating parent organizations and what - fromthe perspective of the European scientific advisory board - would be the preferred ranking.18
