Preface
The Statistical Yearbook of Norway 1961 includes, as before, data for the
last years from the various fields of Norwegian statistics, such as population and
public health, the principal industries, social conditions, justice and law, wages,
prices, finances, national accounts, elections etc. Moreover, a section of international
statistics is included. The annual data as a rule give figures up to 1959
and 1960, some monthly data up to June or July 1961. Information for previous
years will be found in previous yearbooks and in Statistical Survey 1948 with
a supplementary edition 1958.
The tables in the yearbook have generally been arranged in the same way
as in the previous edition, except that the tables on credit market and private
insurance have been rearranged. Some new data have been added, such as some
new tables from the Census of Agriculture 1959, furthermore tables on financial
balances, loans by industry and by lender groups, old age pensions and local
supplements, survivor's benefits for children, family allowances, consumption
weights used in the calculation of the consumer price index, etc. On the other
hand some tables in the previous edition have been omitted, in most cases
because new data were not available.
Mr. Charles W. Rogeberg has been in charge of the editing of the yearbook.
