Vinland story: past, present and the future
anse om Vinland i The East Room, overrekkelse
Tor Dahl
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
stiftelse av The First International Conference on
Lifestyle and Health på Knut Klosters M-S Southward,
og meget mer....
Safety Promotion as part of Health Promotion
Johan Lund
Injuries are one of the main health problems globally,
and is predicted to get higher on the list of
DALYs (Disability adjusted life years) for the 20
leading causes in 2030 than in 2002. Injuries are
divided into accidental injuries, selfinflicted injuries,
injuries from violence and injuries from war
and legal interventions. Accidental injuries is the
main group of injuries.
A danger or hazard is the origin of accidents.
Dangers are everywhere, more or less ìdangerousî.
Sometimes we seek dangers voluntarily, sometimes
they are a part of the daily routine, sometimes
they are forced upon us. There are obviously
a social gradient with regards to which dangers we
have to face, both as nations and groups within a
nation. An overview of different strategies on how
to avoid accidents and injuries will be presented.
Two strategies will be highlighted here:
1) Remove the danger, mostly connected to
injury prevention.
2) Train for mastering dangers, mostly connected
to safety promorion.
The headings of the bi-annually international
conferences in this field have been and still are:
Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion.
Most focus, though, has been and is on ìInjury
Preventionî.
Injury prevention has a connotation of rules, regulation,
hindrances, lack of freedom. Safety promotion
might have more ìpositiveî connotations as
development and mastering. Examples of Safety
Promotion activities will be given. The challenge
is to increase safety promotion activities in our effort
on reducing the number of accidents.
