Struggling Automakers Find Open Road in Brazil
There aren't many bright spots in the global auto industry – so
when carmakers find one, they go all in. With ebbing demand
in the United States, and subsidies propping up Japan's industry
set to expire, the real bright spot is Brazil. In 2003 the country
was the world's 10 th -largest car market; this year it is on pace
to surpass Germany as No. 4. By 2014, demand is forecast
to hit 4 million new cars per year. Sensing opportunity, Asian
auto companies are leading a surge of investment. Toyota is
building its second Brazilian factory for $600 million, due in
2012, the same year the country's first Hyundai-owned plant
will come on line. China's Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. is also
investing $700 million to open its first factory there. Together,
the three plants will create more than four hundred thousand
new vehicles a year.
05) After reading the text "Struggling Automakers
Find Open Road in Brazil", it's possible to
conclude that:
a) Toyota is building its second Brazilian factory
for 600 million new cars, due in 2012.
b) in 2012 Hyundai will sell cars on line to
China's Chery Automobile Co. Ltd
c) Car companies may find the solution for their
current problem in Brazil.
d) Brazilian carmakers may find many bright
spots in the global auto industry.
e) In 2003 Brazilian carmakers surpassed
Germany as No 4 selling four million new
cars.
06) De acordo com o texto Struggling Automakers
Find Open Road in Brazil, é correto afirmar
que:
a) O Brasil vendeu cerca de 8 bilhões de carros
em 2009 para a sua classe média, a qual
está em expansão.
b) Julian Semple é um consultor idoso que
ainda trabalha para Carcon Automotive.
c) A Toyota será a segunda maior fabricante
de carros do Brasil até 2012.
d) Empresas asiáticas devem construir três
novas fábricas no Brasil e poderão vir a
fabricar mais de quatrocentos mil novos
carros anualmente.
e) As empresas asiáticas querem compartilhar
as suas estratégias de mercado com as
gigantes Volkswagen, Ford e GM.
07) No parágrafo 1 o do texto Struggling Automakers
Find Open Road in Brazil, encontramos o termo
"ebbing demand". Com base nas informações
que encontramos no texto, é possível deduzir
que esse termo se refira a:
a) uma demanda em declínio.
b) uma demanda crescente.
c) uma demanda confusa.
d) uma demanda embebida.
e) uma demanda estável.
The goal is to take market share from current giants
like Volkswagen, Ford, and GM, which have themselves
pledged to pour at least $8 billion into Brazil by 2015. In
spite of the global recession, Brazil has had relatively
low unemployment and ample credit for an expanding
middle class, says Julian Semple, a senior consultant
for Carcon Automotive, a Brazil-based consulting firm.
Tax laws also favor setting up shop in-country, to avoid
a 35 percent federal tax on most imports. And hosting
the world's two largest sporting events, the 2014 World
Cup and 2016 Olympics – plus building the massive infrastructure
projects they require – is a near-guarantee of
continued growth. For automakers, the road to recovery
may run through Brazil.
09) As décadas de 1970 e de 1980 marcaram as grandes transformações
por que passaria a biologia com as descobertas da organização
do funcionamento e da variação do material genético dos
seres vivos.
