Igreja e Convento de Santa Clara do Desterro
Church and Convent of Santa Clara do Desterro
Sacristia. A igreja do
convento do Desterro possui
uma sacristia modesta. No seu
teto há uma pintura antiga, nos
moldes barrocos, em
quadratura, em perspectiva. Foi
feita pelo pintor português
Antônio Simões Ribeiro, que
viera à Bahia para pintar a
abóbada da capela-mor da
igreja da Santa Casa da
Misericórdia. Marieta Alves
atribuiu ao mesmo artista a
pintura do teto da sacristia não
só por causa da semelhança do
estilo, mas também por supor
que essa dependência fazia
parte do conjunto da igreja, isto
é, que igreja e sacristia estavam
intimamente
relacionadas. Ao
contrário do que
ocorreu com a
pintura do interior
da igreja, a da
sacristia não foi
destruída na
intervenção de
meados do
oitocentos.
Como toda
sacristia, a do
Sacristy. The church at the
convent of Desterro has a
modest sacristy. Its ceiling
features an old Baroque
perspective painting in
quadrature. It was made by
Portuguese painter Antônio
Simões Ribeiro, who had
come to Bahia to paint the
vault in the main chapel of
the Holy House of Mercy’s
church. Marieta Alves
attributes this painting on the
sacristy ceiling to the same
author, not only because of
the similarities of style, but
also because she assumes this
room to be part of the church
ensemble, that is, that church
and sacristy
connected.
Unlike the
painting inside
the church, the
one in the
sacristy was not
destroyed during
the mid-1800’s
intervention.
Like all
sacristies, the one
at the Desterro
ensemble
features a stone
lavabo. It is a
