Iphan – Ao longo de sua trajetória,
esse organismo federal,
responsável pela preservação do
patrimônio cultural do Brasil e
criado pelo presidente Getúlio
Vargas, mudou de sigla várias
vezes, listadas a seguir:
· 1937- Lei 378, de 13 de janeiro,
regulamentada pelo Dec. Lei 25,
de 30 novembro, criou o Sphan -
Serviço do Patrimônio Histórico e
Artístico Nacional;
· 1946 - Dec. Lei 8.534, de 2
janeiro, alterou o nome para
Dphan - Departamento de
Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico
Nacional;
· 1970 - Dec. 66.967, de 27 julho,
transformou o Dphan em Iphan -
Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e
Artístico Nacional;
·1979 - O Iphan foi dividido em
Sphan (Secretaria), órgão
normativo, e a Lei 6.757, de 26
novembro, criou a FNPM -
Fundação Nacional PróMemória,
órgão excutivo;
· 1990 - Lei 8.029, de 12 abril,
extinguiu Sphan e FNPM,
substituídas pelo IBPC - Instituto
Brasileiro do Patrimônio Cultural;
· 1994 - MP 752, de 6 dezembro,
transformou o IBPC em Iphan -
Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e
Artístico Nacional 12 .

genericamente a sigla mais conhecida: Iphan.

Iphan – Throughout its history,
this federal agency created by
President Getúlio Vargas for the
preservation of the Brazilian
cultural heritage had changed its
acronym several times:
· 1937 - Law 378 of January 13,
regulated by the Decree Law 25
of November 30, created Sphan -
National Historical and Artistic
Heritage Service;
· 1946 - Decree Law 8534 of
January 2, changed its name to
Department for National Artistic
and Historical Heritage;
· 1970 - Dec. 66 967, of July 27,
transformed DPHAN into Iphan
-The Historic and Artistic
National Heritage Institute;
1979 - Iphan was divided into
Sphan (Secretariat), its regulatory
organ, and the Law 6757 of
November 26, created the FNPM
– The Pro-Memory National
Foundation, the executive organ;
· 1990 - Law 8029 of 12 April
extinguished Sphan and FNPM,
that were replaced by IBPC -
Brazilian Institute of Cultural
Heritage;
· 1994 - MP (Provisional
Measure) 752 of 6 December
transformed IBPC into Iphan -
National Historical and Artistic
Heritage Institute 12 .
12. Regardless of the date, we will always use
the most widely known abbreviation: Iphan.
