Sacristia. Comparada a
outras sacristias, a da Catedral
Basílica é grandiosa no
tamanho e de extrema
sobriedade na decoração.
Possui três altares de mármores
multicoloridos, de origem
italiana e influência
renascentista, apesar dos
frontões barrocos partidos.
Observam-se nos altares
imagens barrocas do século
XVIII, de grande porte, que
contrastam com a sobriedade
dos mármores, especialmente a
de Nossa Senhora da Fé, logo à
entrada. No lado oposto, outro
altar abriga o tradicional Cristo
Crucificado barroco que,
possivelmente, esteve no
altar-mor da igreja no
setecentos. Do lado das janelas
há um lavabo que se coaduna
com o conjunto renascentista
dos altares, confeccionado com
as mesmas pedras. Tem a
“marca” jesuítica: IHS.
Um grande arcaz 9 de
jacarandá, dividido em duas
partes, toma toda a parede que
separa a sacristia da igreja. O
móvel é ornamentado com
lavores confeccionados com
casco de tartaruga e marfim,
desgastados pelo tempo. Todo
Sacristy. When compared
to other sacristies, the one at
the Basilica Cathedral is both
grand in its proportions and
extremely sober in its
decoration. It has three altars
in multicolored marble from
Italy, noticeably Renaissant,
in spite of the Baroque
pediments. These altars hold
large Baroque images from
the 18 th century, contrasting
with the sobriety of marble,
particularly the Our Lady of
Faith at the entrance. On the
opposite side, another altar
holds the traditional Baroque
Christ Crucified that was
possibly in the main altar of
the church from the 1700s.
By the windows, there is a
lavabo that merges in with
the Renaissant altar
ensemble, made of the same
stones. It features the Jesuit
“mark”: IHS.
A great jacaranda chest 9 ,
divided in two, takes up the
whole wall separating the
sacristy from the church. This
piece of furniture is
ornamented with carvings
made of time-worn tortoise
shells and ivory. The whole
ensemble probably dates from
9. No século XVIII, chamava-se caixão. 9. In the 18 th century, they were called boxes.
