awarded, in 2018, on the occasion of his
80th birthday, by His Excellency The President
of the Republic, Professor Marcelo
Rebelo de Sousa.
This way of being is also evident in the
work that is printed in this 44th issue of
Hippocampus. Being unquestionable the
prestige that the CNCascais today, deservedly,
enjoys, and its ambitious plans for the
future, it was no less important the work
that, throughout 85 years, was developed
by all those who passed through its organizational
and governing structure, naturally,
represented by its highest dignitaries, so
that it could rise to the level it rightfully
holds today.
Therefore, this time around, we wanted to
hear from the protagonists themselves what
their perspective is of the path already taken
by Clube Naval de Cascais, the mandates
they have fulfilled while leading the respective
destiny, and the future that lies ahead.
In a set of five pertinent questions, put to
all equally, thus giving voice to the former
Presidents and Commodores of CNCascais
who are among us: Vasco Pinto Basto;
Jorge Arnoso; Patrick Monteiro de Barros;
Miguel Magalhães; Miguel Horta e Costa;
and José Sotto Mayor Matoso. Among all,
there is, curiously (or perhaps not...), a common
denominator: a focus on the sporting
activity of the CNC, proving not only the
main purpose of its existence, but also the
undeniable fact of having become, over the
years, the great engine and the main force
of competitive sailing in Portugal.
