and philanthropist Paulo Mirpuri, with
the aim of creating a better world for
future generations.
To this end, the institution has established
partnerships with governments, companies,
communities and individuals, in
order to support specific projects in the
areas of marine and wildlife conservation,
culture, social responsibility, and research
in medicine and aerospace. Throughout
its activity, the foundation is committed
to sustainability, which is evident in the
implementation of initiatives that aim
to contribute to a better world, such as
some of the main sailing projects that are
part of the foundation’s Marine Conservation
Programme: Racing for the Planet
(Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team was
the winning team of The Ocean Race
Europe 2021, publicising the #stopclimatechange
campaign); Turn the Tide
on Plastic (Mirpuri Foundation was the
founder of this team that participated in
the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18, and main
sustainability partner of the competition);
Mirpuri Foundation Sailing School of
Clube Naval de Cascais (the largest in
the country, teaches around 800 young
sailors every year, raising awareness, also,
for the protection of the oceans).
MORE AND BETTER
In 2023, the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing
Trophy will be held from 7-9 July, and
will take another important step forward,
by including two additional classes in its
sports programme: Finn and Snipe, the
latter competing in the South European
Championship on the first day of competition.
Obviously not missing the usual
regattas for the cruising classes (ORC
and NHC), the very fast and always
spectacular VO65 and IMOCA 60, the
very popular SB20 in Portugal, and the
brave youngsters of Optimist.
But there is more that makes the Mirpuri
Foundation Sailing Trophy an unavoidable
initiative in the world sailing scene,
capable of making the name of Portugal
fly high, from where it started to the
world, namely its sustainability, social
and corporate aspects. In the first case,
in addition to this being a plastic-free
event, and with a careful management
of all waste generated, it is essential to
highlight the use of The Good Bottle at
the MFST, the first 100% compostable
and rapidly degradable bottle on the
planet - as well as the Ocean Award,
that recognises and values excellence in
the scientific community, rewarding the
most innovative projects with a positive
impact on the health of the oceans.
And, of course, there will also be spaces
with plenty of comfort and entertainment,
where, on land, guests and sailors
can enjoy a full and exclusive experience
of the 4th Edition of the Mirpuri Foundation
Sailing Trophy. As well as the
corporate programme (composed of a
diverse set of activities, which include
access to exclusive areas, such as the Sailors
Terrace and the Corporate Lounge,
with catering service and open bar), or
the unforgettable experiences, cases of
hotseats (exclusive experiences on board
some of the competition boats), speedboats
(experiences full of adrenaline,
aboard ultra-fast boats, that accompany
the races) and boat jumpers (the bravest
are challenged to climb aboard the boats
that compete in the Atlantic Challenge,
and jump into the sea at the start of the
race).
