GASTROENTEROLOGY TODAY – WINTER 2023
COMPANY NEWS
Tune in to PENTAX Medical
Latest Podcast!
Ulrike Beilenhoff (ESGENA Scientific
Secretary) and Prof. dr. Marco
Bruno (Head of the Department of
Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Erasmus
Medical Center) reflect on minimizing
the risk of infection in endoscope
reprocessing, touching on pivotal topics
such as the role of manual bedside
cleaning, the risk of biofilm formation,
how to trace a potential infection and the
importance of training. Listen now:
Micro-Tech’s VacStent Gi
We are very pleased to announce that
Micro-Tech’s revolutionary designed
VacStent Gi is now available and being
utilised by NHS England.
The VacStent GI combines two reliable
methods for the treatment of leakage
and anastomotic insufficiency: while the
fully encased stent completely covers the
defects, the wound cavity is drained by
continuous suction.
The VacStent Gi is an innovation in
endoscopic therapy for leaks because it
COMBINES the advantages of the covered
stent with those of improving wound healing
through vacuum drainage.
The innovative product consists of a siliconecoated,
self-expanding super elastic nitinol
stent with a cylindrical polyurethane sponge
on the outside, connected via catheter to
a vacuum source. A continuous suction of
-80 to -120 mm Hg is applied to the sponge.
VacStent GI is as easy to apply as any GI
stent. It won’t dislocate because the suction
keeps it in place, even in difficult topographic
locations of the GI tract. However, it allows for
the open passage of endoscopic instruments,
enteral nutrition, and intestinal contents.
VacStent GI has obtained the CE mark as a
class 2 A medical device. Clinical applications
in the oesophagus have so far been carried
out as part of clinical studies, accompanied
and then unaccompanied implantations.
If you want to know more about our VacStent
Gi or start a product trial, please do get in
touch and we would be happy to assist.
TRIAGE GASTROSCOPY
REFERRALS WITH
GastroPanel® Quick Test
GastroPanel® is a simple and effective noninvasive
test to identify atrophic gastritis
and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) prior to
endoscopy.
Atrophic gastritis – a chronic condition of the gastric
mucosa, is considered to be the greatest independent
risk factor for developing gastric cancer and guidelines
recommend that individuals with extensive gastric
atrophy undergo regular endoscopic surveillance
to closely monitor their disease. Early detection
of significant risk is the key to effective patient
management, helping to reduce unnecessary referrals,
and improve survival rates through earlier diagnoses.
GastroPanel helps select cases for
gastroscopy.
GastroPanel is a simple, effective and low cost blood
test that, through extensive validation, has consistently
proven to be effective in the determination of chronic
atrophic gastritis non-invasively. When GastroPanel
is positive, it helps direct appropriate and effective
treatment plans, including, enhanced image endoscopy,
eradication therapy, and surveillance.
GastroPanel measures three stomach biomarkers
from a finger-prick or venous blood sample, enabling
a thorough and objective investigation of the whole
gastric mucosa, non-invasively, giving clinicians more
confidence in their diagnoses and referrals.
GastroPanel measures concentrations of Pepsinogen I, Pepsinogen II,
Gastrin-17 and H. pylori IgG and produces a comprehensive report.
When endoscopy resources and capacity are
stretched.
This patient-friendly blood test can help transform
the referral pathway for upper GI investigations by
identifying those who need enhanced endoscopy
with biopsies. Implementing GastroPanel could help
to relieve the burden on overstretched endoscopy
services, streamline referrals, and reduce costs.
