Project (MPP) between 1974 and 1986, of which 12,090 men were age 44-50 at baseline venipuncture.
We identified men with prostate cancer metastases by the end of 2006. The rate of PSA testing during
the follow up period was very low. Men who died from prostate cancer with no radiographic evidence of
metastases were considered to have the event on their date of death. A nested case-control design was
utilized to investigate the association between PSA at age 44-50 and subsequent metastatic disease.
PSA, free PSA, and kallikrein-related peptidase 2 (hk2) were measured in archived plasma for 184
cases and 496 matched controls.
