NEW MEDIA
The Emerging Force that Social Media is.
By Ian Rumanyika Manager Public and Corporate Affairs Division
Today, every major organisation in the world
considers their websites and mobile sites the
future of their business. New platforms, tools,
channels, gadgets, and apps are being introduced.
The statistics of people on social media and
active internet users in Uganda is about 7 million
according to internetlivestats.com, which provides
us with a platform for wide coverage.
Despite structural challenges, PCA has embraced
social media because of a number of benefits
available. It is a free channel of communication,
drives compliance, real time feedback
management and a tool for quick communication
of breaking stories.
On a daily basis, we receive over 200 inquiries
on Facebook and Twitter. Imagine how many
people we are able to reach.
A swift adoption to new media platforms is
evidenced by the various digital platforms
we have opened up to ease communication
between our clients and us. These include:
• Facebook (URA page).
• Twitter (URAuganda).
• Instagram (ura_ug).
• YouTube, (Uganda Revenue
Authority URA).
• Scribd.
• Storify.
• Flickr, in addition to the website and
the bridge.
