Maxillar And Mandibular Bone Mineral Density Determination In Man
With Dental Fluorosis
The aim of this study is to investigate mineral density alterations in jaw bones
with digital dansitometric analysis of digitized panaromic radiographs in men
who have dental fluorosis. The results were compared both control group and
to each other. Before, initiation of the study, approval of the ethic committee
of the Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Medicine was taken. Our
research was performed on 103 healthy male individual between 18-58 years
old, who were referred to the Department Of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Clinic. All of the individuals who were involved in the research, were divided
into as a control and study groups by using Thylstrup-Fejerskov Dental
Fluorosis Index. As a method, panoramic radiography were taken from all
individuals with the help of aluminyum stepwedge which was placed in the
roentgen casette before. Than dansitometric analysis was performed on
digitized panoramic radiography. For statistical analysis SPSS 11.0 statistical
programme was used. The results of this study were revealed that, dental
fluorosis scores increase from anterior to the posterior teeth and maxillary
and mandibular bone mineral density values increase with the degree of
dental fluorosis scores.
Key Words: aluminium stepwedge, jaw bone, dental fluorosis, digital image
