WINNERS OF WORLDSTAR AWARDS 2023 ANNOUNCED BY WORLD PACKAGING ORGANISATION 

Dünya Ambalaj Örgütü (WPO), yen Hedye Ambalajı, Djtal 

Ambalaj ve Erşleblr Ambalaj kategorlerndek adaylar da 

dahl olmak üzere 2023 WorldStar Ödüller’nn 228 kazananını 

açıkladı. Toplam 41 ülkeden 488 başvurunun yapıldığı 

yarışmada Japonya 26 ödülle en çok ödül alan ülke olurken, 

onu 19 ödülle Avustralya ve Yen Zelanda, 18 ödülle Hndstan 

ve Almanya, 14 ödülle Türkye ve 13 ödülle Avusturya takp 

ett. Başarılı ambalaj tasarımları arasında O F Packagng’s 

Koh Kerbsde frmasının Ger Dönüştürüleblr Doldurma 

Ağızlı Poşet, Pact Group frmasının Norco çn %100 rPET 

süt şşes ve POLIFILM EXTRUSION GmbH frmasının oda

WorldStar Ödüller’nn tüm adayları, son k yıl çnde Dünya 

Ambalaj Örgütü (WPO) tarafından tanınan başka br ambalaj 

yarışmasından ulusal veya bölgesel br ambalaj ödülünün 

sahb oldu. Bu yılk ödüllerde üç yen ödül fırsatı da sunuldu: 

Hedye Ambalajı ve Djtal Ambalaj alanlarında k ana 

kategor ve Erşleblr Ambalaj alanında özel br kategor. 

Bu yılın kazananları ödüllerne 6 Mayıs’ta Düsseldorf’ta 

Interpack 2023 Fuarı kapsamında düzenlenecek Gala

The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) has announced 

the 228 winners of its WorldStar Awards 

2023, including nominees under the new Gift Packaging, 

Digital Packaging, and Accessible Packaging 

categories. With a record total of 488 entries from 41 

nations, Japan was the most awarded country with 

26 awards, followed by Australia and New Zealand 

with 19 awards, India and Germany with 18, Turkey 

with 14, and Austria with 13. Successful packaging 

designs include O F Packaging’s Koh Kerbside 

Recyclable Refill Spout Pouch, Pact Group’s 100% 

rPET milk bottle for Norco, and POLIFILM EXTRU- 

SION GmbH’s room-temperature-laminating polyolefine 

film. All the nominees for the WorldStar Awards 

have, within the past two years, received a national 

or regional packaging award from another packaging 

competition recognised by WPO. This year’s awards 

also introduced three new award opportunities – two 

main categories in Gift Packaging and Digital Packaging, 

and a special category in Accessible Packaging. 

This year’s winners will receive their awards on 6th 

May in a Gala Ceremony taking place during Interpack 

2023 in Düsseldorf. There WPO will also announce 

the successful nominees for the President’s 

Award, Sustainability Award, Marketing Award, and 

Packaging that Saves Food Award. Amcor’s AmSky, 

an HDPE-based pharmaceutical blister packaging 

system, was both a WorldStar Award winner and a 

finalist-turned-winner under the ‘Recyclable Packaging’ 

category at the Sustainability Awards 2022.

Lousana’dak Pololefn Fabrkasında yen polproplen 

üretm brmnn başarıyla devreye alındığını duyurdu. 

Ünte, Körfez Kıyısı boyunca polproplen üretm kapastesn 

yılda 450.000 mt artırarak, özellkle yakıt vermllğn 

artırablen ve araç emsyonlarını azaltablen 

otomotv parçaları olmak üzere yüksek performanslı, 

haff ve dayanıklı plastklere yönelk artan taleb karşılıyor. 

Çeştl uygulamalara sahp br polmer olan polproplen,

IRVING, Texas — ExxonMobil today announced 

the successful startup of its new polypropylene 

production unit at the Polyolefins Plant in Baton 

Rouge, Louisiana. The unit increases polypropylene 

production capacity along the Gulf Coast by 450,000 

metric tons per year, meeting growing demand for 

high-performance, lightweight and durable plastics, 

particularly for automotive parts that can improve fuel 

efficiency and reduce vehicle emissions. Polypropylene, 

a polymer with several applications, is also used to improve 

the safety and efficiency of everyday products like 

medical masks and food packaging. “With the startup 

of this new production unit, we are well positioned to 

responsibly meet the growing global demand for these 

high-performance polymers,” said Karen McKee, president 

of ExxonMobil Product Solutions. “The ingenuity 

of our people and our investments in technology enable 

us to produce high quality products that are essential to 

daily life.” ExxonMobil maintained its investments in this 

advantaged project through the COVID pandemic and 

related economic downturn. The total capital investment 

was more than $500 million. ExxonMobil’s extensive 

mega-project management experience and unrivaled 

technology capability enabled the unit to start up according 

to planned cost and schedule. ExxonMobil’s 

integrated operations in Baton Rouge include a more 

than 500,000 barrel-per-day refinery, as well as chemical, 

lubricants, polyolefins and plastics manufacturing.

It is very lightweight yet durable. It provides high barrier properties, 

protecting the contents and extending shelf life, both of which 

are key in delivering safe and hygienic products to consumers 

across the world. 

Indeed, what makes flexible plastic packaging stand out is the balance 

it strikes between minimizing both material use and greenhouse 

gas emissions during the lifecycle of the product, while not 

compromising on the level of protection needed. This is shown in 

various analyses comparing the overall environmental impacts of 

different packaging materials. 

Given the critical benefits of flexible packaging, solving the issue 

of low plastic recycling rates is key to tipping the balance of plastic 

packaging even further towards the positive. Huhtamaki is fully 

committed to delivering 100% recyclable packaging. 

At Huhtamaki we believe the shift to mono-material structures 

is key to plastic packaging recyclability 

By driving a rapid shift to the use of mono-materials in flexible 

packaging, we can reduce its complexity and increase the yield in 

current recycling processes. Designing and testing for recyclability 

also helps scale up recycling streams. 

In addition to an increased use of PCR, we need a broader view 

on the circularity of plastics 

We are also looking into the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) 

and post-industrial recycled (PIR) plastic in flexible packaging. At 

Huhtamaki, we already integrate mechanically and chemicallyrecycled 

plastics into customer packaging applications such as 

home care, personal care and pet food—and we are eager to do 

more of this, where possible.

Depending on the model and manufacturer, lightweight 

robots have a payload of up to 25 kilograms. In order to 

use them for layer-by-layer palletizing and depalletizing, 

J. Schmalz GmbH has given its layer grippers a diet. The result is 

the particularly lightweight layer gripper ZLW, which lifts up to 20 

kilograms while weighing only between four and 7.5 kilograms, depending 

on its size. This leaves the robot with enough payload for 

the actual handling task. 

The ZLW extends the SPZ series of layer gripping systems downwards 

and can grip several open, hollow or closed objects such 

as jars, cans or cardboard boxes with different dimensions simultaneously. 

It compensates for height differences in the workpiece 

layer with an optionally available spring-loaded flange. In addition, 

Schmalz configures the lightweight gripper individually: The user 

receives an efficient complete system with components that are 

matched to each other and to the task. 

The vacuum generator is also dimensioned so that it does not require 

more power than is necessary for process reliability. But this 

is not the only thing that increases the efficiency of the handling 

process: the new layer gripper also indirectly helps to keep the CO2 

footprint low: Smaller robots require less power and thus support 

sustainable automation - for example in production feeding, automated 

warehousing or end-of-line palletizing. 

Schmalz has deliberately kept the design slim: The sealing element 

is optionally equipped with individual plug-in suction cups or a 

sealing foam. A frame connects these to the honeycomb plate, on 

which a pressure relief valve, the vacuum switch VSi and the flange 

are mounted. The vacuum generator stands separately.

Hkayemz: Büyükbabamız Adem Aktaş, çalışma hayatına dönemn 

büyük frmalarında muhasebec olarak başlamıştı. 1957’de kend 

muhasebe bürosu Ak-İş Muhasebe'y kurmuştu. Gündüzler Mensucat 

Santral’dek şne devam edp, geceler de kend bürosunda çalışıyordu. 

Br süre sonra şnden ayrılıp bütün zamanını kend şrketne 

ayırmaya başlamıştı. Ak-İş Muhasebe 90'ların başına kadar faal kalıp, 

sonrasında teneke kutu şne yoğunlaşmak çn kapatılacaktı. 

Müşterlernden br olan Münr Akkoyun, çeştl frmalarda çalıştıktan 

sonra 1964'de kend frmasını kuran br teneke kutu ustasıydı. 

Kendsnn müşterler vardı ancak ş büyütmek çn sermayes 

yoktu. Br süre görüştükten sonra Adem Aktaş, bankadan 

kred alıp, Münr Akkoyun le ortak olmuş ve Amr Teneke Kutu 

Sanay 1968'de Türkye'nn o dönemk metal ambalaj merkez 

Emnönü'nde kurulmuştu. Alemzn sektöre grş olan Amr, smn 

de ortakların smlernn brleşmnden almıştı. 

The Beginning: Our grandfather Adem Aktas started his career as 

an accountant at big firms of his time. He started his own accounting 

firm, Ak-Is Accounting, in 1957 and worked there at nights 

while holding his daytime job. After a while, the accounting firm 

started taking more of his time. He finally resigned and committed 

himself to his business. And Ak-Is Accounting would be in business 

until the early 90's and later would be closed to focus mainly on the 

tin business. One of his clients, Munir Akkoyun, was a can making 

technician who started his own business in 1964 after working for 

other companies. Munir had clients but not the capital to grow the 

business. So a few years and several discussions later, Adem took 

out a loan from the bank and partnered up with Munir. This is how 

we got into the tin business as Amir Can Industry in 1968 in Eminonu 

district of Istanbul which was the metal packaging capital of 

Turkey at the time. The name Amir was a combination of both of 

their names and also meant chief in Turkish. 

Amir Can Industry: Amir had about 15 employees, one production 

line and was working out of a small 1500 sq ft (150 sq mt) 

shop placed on the basement floor of an office building. Being in 

the basement, when they received raw material, all the workers 

would line up from the entrance of the building through the stairs 

to the shop and carry by passing it from one person to another. 

The single production line consisted of a few simple machines 

and and with this basic line, we were producing tins for a wide 

range of products like paint, putty and baby formula. After the 

first year of Amir, CBS Paint Company, one of the biggest paint 

companies at the time, was taken on as a client. This was a very 

big step for Amir. CBS would be our biggest client for many years 

to come. After a while, disagreements started between the two 

partners. And in 1978, Munir sold his shares to Adem and he and 

his son who was also an employee left the company. He opened a 

shop nearby, bought new machines and continued. 

Amr Teneke Kutu Sanay: Amr, br ş hanının 150 m2'lk bodrumunda 

faalyet gösteryordu ve aşağı yukarı 15 çalışanı bulunan br 

üretm hattı vardı. Bodrum katta olduğu çn, hammadde geldğnde, 

çalışanlar hanın grşnden alt kattak dükkana kadar sıralanıp, elden 

ele taşırlardı. 

Brkaç bast makne bulunan üretm hattında boyadan, oto macuna 

ve hatta süt tozuna kadar çok çeştl sektörlere kutu üretlyordu. 

Amr'n lk senesnde dönemn en büyük boya fabrkalarından br 

olan ÇBS le çalışılmaya başlanmıştı. Bu çok büyük br adımdı ve 

ÇBS le uzun seneler çalışılacaktı. 

Brkaç sene sonra k ortak arasında anlaşmazlıklar çıkmaya başlamıştı. 

Munr Akkoyun, hsselern Adem Aktaş’a satıp, beraber çalıştığı 

oğlu le şrketten ayrılmıştı. Yakınlarda br dükkan açıp ve yen 

makneler alıp çalışmaya devam etmşt. 




Teksan Teneke Kutu: Büyükbabamızın hayalnde küçük ve orta 

ölçekl üretclern br araya geldğ br kooperatf vardı. Hammadde 

alımı, baskı tess kurma, ş paylaşımı ve hatta arsa alıp fabrka nşa 

etmek gb şler beraber yapableceklerd. Sektörden tanıdığı bazı kşler 

de bunun br parçası olmak stemş ve 1975'de Teksankop İstanbul 

Teneke, Teneke Kutu ve Ambalaj Kooperatf kurulmuştu. Bu aynı 

zamanda Teksan'ın temeln oluşturacaktı. Sektör adına çok büyük 

br gelşmeyd ve lk olarak Çaykur halesne grlmşt. Adetler yüksek, 

koşullar zor ve de düşük olan fyat hale süres boyunca sabtt. 

İhale kazanılmış ama kooperatf üyeler fkr değştrmşt. Projeye 

grmek stemyorlardı. Adem Aktaş kutuları üreteblmek çn üyelerden 

Şaban Slan le 1976’da ortaklaşa Teksan'ı kurup, kooperatf 

çatısı altında üretme hazırlanmışlardı. Ancak üretm başlamadan 

hammadde fyatları cdd şeklde yükselmşt. Şaban Slan ve kooperatfn 

müdürü fyatlarla lgl görüşmek ve destek almak çn 

Ereğl Demr Çelk’e gtmş fakat dönüş yolunda br kaza geçrp 

vefat etmşlerd. Çok zor br başlangıç olmuştu. 

Hammadde fyatlarının artışı le halede çok cdd zarar etmeye başlamıştık. 

Herhalde ekonomk anlamda geçrdğmz en zor dönemd. 

Alemzn neredeyse bütün breyler destek olmak çn üretmde çalışıp, 

haley btrmemze yardım etmşlerd. 

Sonrası: İhale sonrasında Teksan faalyetn durdurmuştu ve Amr 

de Teksan'ın dükkanına taşınmıştı. Ekbmz kuvvetlyd ama olanların 

üstesnden geleblmek çn zamana htyaç vardı. 1980’lerde büyükbabamızın 

kardeş Kazım Aktaş ve lerde üretm müdürü olacak 

yeğen İlker Aktaş da 1970'lerde şrkete katılmıştı. 

Teksan Can Industry: Adem had envisioned a tin can coop 

of small to medium-sized manufacturers. Together, they 

would purchase raw material, set up a printing line, distribute 

their workload to increase efficiency and even buy land to build factories. 

Some of his friends in the business became a part of this and 

that's how the foundation of Teksan started to be laid down in 1975 

with the founding of Teksankop Istanbul Tin, Tin Can and Packaging 

Co-op. This was a very big deal in the business and the first project 

undertaken was the government-owned tea company, Çaykur's 

bidding. The quantity was high, the prices were low and the conditions 

were tough as the price would be locked in no matter what. 

The bid was won and the co-op members had a change of heart. 

They backed out. The penalty would be high. So Adem and one other 

member of the co-op, Saban Silan, founded Teksan in 1976 to manufacture 

the tins. As luck would have it, the raw material price skyrocketed 

before the production even started. Saban and the manager of 

the co-op had a meeting with the raw material company to get help for 

the prices. They had an accident on the way back and passed away. 

This was a very rough start. The cost increase in raw material turned 

the project into a big loss for us. This was by far the hardest economical 

time for our family. Everyone in our immediate and extended family 

worked on the manufacturing floor to help us finish the project. 

Aftermath: Teksan stopped its operations for a few years and Amir 

moved into Teksan's premises. Our team was strong but we needed 

some time to get over what had just happened. Adem's younger 

brother who was a technical school teacher, retired and joined the 

company in early 80's. Also, Adem's nephew who was a 19-year-old 

high school graduate had joined a few years prior to that.

Geçş Dönem: Halamız Tülhan Atılgan, muhasebe ve fnansla 

uğraşırken, babamız İlhan Aktaş da hem üretm hem de satışla lglenyordu. 

1987 Teksan çn öneml br seneyd. İlk baskı hattımız 

alınmıştı. Yermz yetmedğ çn, İstanbul'un Anadolu yakasında br 

bna kralanmıştı ve ş blen yen personel şrkete alınmıştı. 5 senelk 

br süre çersnde de bütün üretm bu bnaya taşınacaktı. En son 

olarak muhasebe bürosu da kapatılıp, Karaköy'dek ofs yen bnaya 

taşınmıştı. Küçük halamız Nlhan Aktaş se 10 sene boyunca Bağ- 

Kur'da çalıştıktan sonra şrkete katılmıştı. 

Her şey yolundaydı. Sparşler artıyor ve kapaste artırılıyordu. Kendmz 

dışında başka üretclere de fason baskı yapıyorduk ve şn bu 

kısmı babamız İlhan Aktaş’ın çok hoşuna gtmşt. Artan taleb karşılamak 

çn 1990'ların sonunda br lak hattı ve br baskı hattı satın 

alınmıştı. İşler brkaç sene daha y gttkten sonra ne yazık k 2001 

krz çıktı. Aynı dönemde hem en büyük müştermz madd sıkıntıya 

grmş, hem de plastk ambalaj, bzm pazarımızdan cdd şeklde 

pay almaya başlamıştı. Madd kaybımız çok büyüktü. Önümüzdek 

seneler şlern yavaşlaması ve rekabetn kızışmasıyla çok sıkıntılı 

geçecekt. 

Torunlar: İlhan Aktaş’ın k çocuğundan büyüğü olan ben Gökhan, 

yurtdışında satış müdürlüğü yapıyordum. Ağustos 2005'de 

br Cumartes günü Türkye'ye ger dönüş yapıp, Pazartes günü 

Teksan'da şbaşı yapmıştım. Kız kardeşm Zeynep se br sene sonra, 

Sstem Mühendslğ'nden mezun olup, şrkete grmşt. O daha 

çok tasarım ve ofset baskı le lglenrken, ben de satışları artırmaya 

çalışıp, Avrupa pazarına grmeye çalışıyordum. Tam br sene uğraştıktan 

sonra lk hracatımızı Romanya'ya yapmıştık. Daha sonra yurtdışı 

sparşler brer brer gelmeye başladı. İhracat yavaş büyüyordu 

ama umut vercyd. 

2008’dek global krz le beraber şler br anda durmuştu. Krzn etklern 

slmek çn sonrak brkaç sene gece gündüz çalışmamız gerekmşt. 

Küresel ekonomnn artık esks gb olmayacağını da anlamıştık. 

Hızlı büyüyen yerne, krz atlatablen br şrket olmak bzm 

çn daha öneml br hale gelmşt. Bunu hedefmz halne getrdk. 

Bugün hem çok çeştl hem de her büyüklükte müştermz var. 

Ürünlermz 30'dan fazla ülkeye yolluyoruz. Ürettğmz kutular hem 

yerel hem uluslararası ödüller alıyor. Bazı maknelermz kendmz 

üretyoruz. Hala zorlandığımız şeyler karşımıza çıkıyor ancak bz 

zoru sevyoruz. Bu sayede kendmz gelştreblyoruz. 

Aile, bizim gücümüzü aldığımız ortak değerimiz. Bu serüven 

bizi 50 senelik deneyim, aile geleneği ve küçük firma 

esnekliğini bir arada sunabildiğimiz bir noktaya getirdi. Bizi 

farklı ve tercih edilir kılan da bu. 

All these years led us to a place where we offer small 

business flexibility, family ethics and 50 years of 

experience. That is what makes us different and that is 

why our clients join us. 

Transition: Tulhan was handling finance and accounting and 

Ilhan was working on sales and manufacturing. 1987 was a 

big year. Our first printing line was purchased. New staff has 

joined the company and a new building was rented which was on the 

Asian side of Istanbul. In the span of 5 years, all of the production would 

be moved to this new building. Finally, the offices were also moved with 

the closing of the accounting firm. Their baby sister Nilhan also joined 

the company after working for the Social Security Administration for 

10 years.Things were good. Business was booming and our capacity 

was increasing. We were printing for other tin manufacturers too and 

Ilhan was really enjoying this side of the business. To keep up with the 

demand a new coating line and a new printing line were purchased 

in the late 90's. Good times lasted for another few years and in 2001 

a financial crisis hit Turkey. Right about this time, one of our biggest 

clients got into financial troubles and also plastics started taking a big 

chunk of the tin business. A lot of money was lost. The next few years 

would be really tough as the business was also slowing down and the 

competition was getting fierce. 

Grandkids: Ilhan had two children. I, Gokhan, joined the company in 

August 2005 after working as a sales manager abroad. I moved back 

to Istanbul on a Saturday and started working on the following Monday. 

And my sister Zeynep, a fresh System's Engineering grad, started a year 

after. She was focusing more on printing and designs, while I was trying 

to increase sales and mainly focusing on the European market. It took 

one full year to land the first export job which was to Romania. And then 

one after another kept coming. It was slow but promising. However, 

things came to a halt when the mortgage crisis hit in late 2008. It took 

a few years and a lot of hard work to make things turn around. We also 

knew that the global economy was changing for good and it wasn't 

going to be stable anymore. Withstanding financial crises was more 

important than high growth. We made that a goal. Today, we have a 

wide variety of clients of all sizes. We send our products to more than 

30 countries worldwide. We produce tins that win local and international 

awards. We build some of our own machinery. Some things still make 

us struggle at times but we like a good challenge and we learn from it.

A refrigerator is an example of this. During shipment, refrigerators 

are usually tied to a pallet that is the same 

width as the base. 

Since refrigerators are top-heavy, you will want to make sure you 

have enough strength in your strapping to retain balance during 

transportation. 

Some businesses want to do extreme strapping for more security. 

However, you can reduce material waste and properly secure 

your loads with the right size and the appropriate product. 

Transportation Distance: You will want a sturdier strap to resist 

the movement of transportation if your product will be shipped 

long distances. It is also useful to consider the width of the strap 

when thinking about the shipment. 

It is not preferable to use 5 mm wide strap for a long transport 

carrying a heavy load. A thin strap will not have the strength to 

carry the load, therefore it would be more convenient to use a 

wider and stronger product. 

The more likely your products are to slip while traveling, the wider 

the strap you want to use. Because it can stretch and maintain its 

integrity, polypropylene is an excellent option. 

Tensile Strength: The breaking strength is the amount of force 

required for a strap to break. 

Tensile strength is dependent on the strapping method, the number 

of straps used per load, the size of the strap and the total 

weight of the strapped products. 

To avoid breakage, it is very important that you contact us about 

the optimal strap sizing. 

Strapping Method: When choosing the ideal strapping material, 

how you strap your products is very important. If you only strap 

ten shoebox-sized products a day, manual strapping tools are an 

excellent option. 

If you are strapping the size of 100 shoeboxes a day, you will 

want to consider a semi-automatic or automatic machine. 

To find the ideal match for your implementation, several options 

are available on the machines. Automated machines can make 

about eight straps per minute and up to 10,000 straps per day.

adımlarından sonra, ger dönüştürülmüş nha granüller üretmde yenden kullanıma hazırdır. Bu

• Shredder Parçalayıcı entegrasyonu - Rafya, Dokuma ve Kırılması Zor Plastkler

malzemeler, sert yapıları nedenyle ger dönüşüm ekstruderne beslenmeden önce ön kırma şlemne

On the other hand, preventing plastic waste from humidity and contamination as 

much as possible can help prevent material loss and increase the final pellet quality. 

Integrated machine design 

In the recycling process, several plastic recycling equipment has important duties. For instance, 

a cutter compactor or shredder reduces the size of waste plastic, an extruder melts 

the material to be able to reshape it, then a pelletizer unit cuts the plastic melt into final pellet 

shapes. POLYSTAR’s easy-to-use integrated machine designs allow the combination of 

these different pieces of equipment into one plastic granulator machine. These integrations 

provide a continuous operation by decreasing operation steps, minimize labor intervention, 

and save time and energy. 

• Cutter compactor integration for PE/PP Film 

Cutter compactor integration of Repro-Flex and Repro-Flex Plus plastic granulator machine 

models eliminates the need for a separated crusher and improves feeding consistency. 

Post-industrial plastic film waste and washed/dried post-consumer film waste can 

be directly fed to the cutter compactor, and cut by rotary and stationary knives. Cutter 

compactor pre-conditions (cuts, compacts, pre-heats) these lightweight materials and directly 

feeds to the recycling extruder since it is directly connected to the extruder. After the 

following extrusion and pelletizing steps in the same machine, the final recycled pellets are 

ready for reuse. Therefore, this system helps with a smoother and more stable recycling 

process. 

• Shredder integration for Raffia, Woven, and Hard-to-grind Materials 

In the conventional method of recycling raffia, woven, and hard-to-grind plastic materials; 

these materials require pre-crushing before feeding to the recycling extruder because of 

their rigid structure. This takes time, space, and more labor effort.

Repro-One plastic granulator machine solves this problem with 

its integrated single-shaft shredder. In this system, the material 

is only required to be fed to the built-in shredder. The built-in 

shredder processes the plastic waste at a low temperature to prevent 

degradation, then conveys it to the recycling extruder directly for the following 

extrusion and pelletizing steps. Therefore, Repro-One provides a 

one-step recycling process for PP raffia, woven bags, nonwoven, shrink 

film rolls, start-up lumps, and many other hard plastic materials. 

Consistent feeding of the plastic waste 

Consistent material feeding in the plastic recycling process is one of the 

keys to higher pellet output, hence for the recycling efficiency. It also 

eliminates the machine downtime caused by over-feeding or insufficient

Noting that fast consumption culture of our age rendered 

packaging design even more important, Bürkan Çiftçigüzeli explains 

“Thousands of similar products are awaiting at the shelves for their 

buyers. If the first thing that we touch in the stores, or see on the 

digital displays is the packages, regardless of sector, segment or 

function, than it is impossible to deny the power of the design. Yet, 

the consumer surveys unfold the effect of packaging design on the 

decision-making process. At this point, there is a strong correlation 

between the quality of packaging design and the communication 

between consumer and product. In our age where competition 

goes beyond the local borders, turning the globe into a digital mega 

market, the brands who excels on the packaging communication 

are earning a place in the minds of the consumer, while others fall 

behind the shelves. Designs which go beyond their basic protection 

and introduction functions take a place not only on the digital 

shelves but also lives of the consumer. At the end of the day, every 

product is remembered with its package”. 

Packaging design kicks in the first 7 seconds critical to affect a 

consumer at the shelf. 

The first 7 seconds is critically important for brands to affect a consumer 

before a shelf, either digital or physical, and a poor first impression 

makes it difficult to close the deal, says Bürkan Çiftçigüzeli, 

concluding that: “Now, we are experiencing a totally brand new buying 

process. Now there is a more complex process which consists of 

consumer base who uses a myriad of digital channels, easily distracted, 

comparing alternatives, engaging in a comprehensive search. 

Moreover, the sales may well remain short of the expectations, even 

if the products are the best in the market, or have all qualities to meet 

all needs, without a package that will reflect these qualities.

EFFERVESCENT PREPARATIONS GENTLY PACKED 

Packing effervescent tablets is a particular challenge because they 

can easily break due to their porous structure and are also highly sensitive 

to light, air and moisture. These tablets must therefore be transported 

carefully and packed absolutely tight, especially if they are classed as 

medicinal products. What’s more, this dosage form must not be stored 

unpacked in a buffer container, but must be processed in-line as soon 

as the tablets have been compressed in order to protect the latter from 

environmental and mechanical influences. When packing effervescent 

products, HERMES PHARMA therefore not only focuses on maximum 

flexibility, reliable processes and short changeover times but also on 

gentle tablet handling. For the primary packaging of the effervescent 

tablets, either in four-side sealed strips or in plastic or aluminium tubes, 

the in-process transfer system and the secondary packaging in cartons, 

the company trusts in the line competence of Romaco, a leading international 

supplier of packaging and processing technologies. HERMES 

PHARMA currently has several heat sealing machines, two tube filling 

machines and a servo driven transfer unit from Romaco Siebler as well as

When the fragile effervescent tablets are fed into the sealing 

station, they are kept in continuous motion by a feeding bow 

that was specially developed for this purpose and turned from a horizontal 

into a vertical position with virtually no stress, so that the risk of 

breakage or abrasion is minimised. The Romaco Siebler heat sealing 

machines are additionally characterised by precise temperature distribution 

on the sealing surfaces and only one roller frame for the sealing 

process. Absolutely tight sealing patterns are achieved in this manner 

without double seals.

FULL FLEXIBILITY WITH SIEBLER FLEXTRANS, THE SERVO DRIVEN 

TRANSFER SOLUTION 

HERMES PHARMA relies on the Siebler FlexTrans, the world’s fastest flexible 

transfer unit for strip packaging with up to 900 picks per minute, to transfer 

the sealed strips to the cartoner. A camera checks their position and 

assigns the strips to the robotic vacuum grippers, which then convey the 

product directly into the cartoner’s bucket chain. HERMES PHARMA uses 

the Siebler FlexTrans to transfer strips of two, four or six tablets and has full 

flexibility in terms of pack sizes, strip layouts and stack heights. “After we 

purchased the FlexTrans strip packaging line, we were able to manufacture 

the first batch in 2012 just six weeks after the system was delivered - and 

the line has been working totally reliably and with only minimal maintenance 

ever since”, reports Ricardo Alves, Production Technology Assistant at 

HERMES PHARMA. “It’s also worth noting that all components – from the 

tablet feeding system through the primary packaging to the cartoner – are 

Romaco-made, so that all critical interfaces originate from a single supplier.”

ROTATION PRINCIPLE ENABLES GENTLE FILLING OF EF- 

FERVESCENT TABLETS INTO TUBES 

HERMES PHARMA has a Romaco Siebler STF 120 tube filling machine 

for the primary packaging of the fragile effervescent tablets. The machine 

fills them into tubes extremely carefully according to the rotation 

principle: they are fed lying down flat to the filling station, where they 

pass through fast-rotating filling tubes. The tablets are automatically 

erected as a result of this rotation and can then slide upright - and without 

any mechanical action - into the waiting tubes, which likewise rotate at 

high speed. The air cushions that are created by the rotation’s suction 

effect centre the tablets and prevent them from colliding with the tube 

walls. The risk of breakage is consequently reduced to a minimum and 

even very small (as little as 16 mm in diameter), thin (no thicker than 3 

mm) or soft (hardness down to 40 Newtons) effervescent tablets can 

be filled safely in this way. 

INTERMITTENT MOTION, CONTINUOUS MOTION AND TOP-LOAD 

CARTONERS ENABLE HIGHLY FLEXIBLE SECONDARY PACKAGING 

HERMES PHARMA chose six PC 4000 (continuous motion) and P 91 

(intermittent motion) series cartoners as well as two Romaco Promatic 

top-load multibox cartoners to take care of the secondary packaging, 

enabling a huge range of cartons to be processed. The two top-load 

cartoners, for example, allow up to ten tubes to be packed in one display 

carton. The tubes are picked up by a pick & place system, partially rotated 

and then placed in two layers with the caps aligned in different directions. 

HERMES PHARMA changes over the secondary packaging machines 

five or six times per day. “We have a lot of different box sizes in our 

portfolio and the batches we manufacture are sometimes very small”, 

reports Daniel Schatz, Manager Production Engineering Mechanics 

at HERMES PHARMA. “That’s why it’s a great advantage for us in 

day-to-day production that both the cartoners and all other Romaco 

machines can be retooled very easily. The majority of format changes 

are completely tool-free and the machines are easy to clean thanks to 

the GMP compliant design.” 

CLOSE COOPERATION OVER MANY YEARS 

HERMES PHARMA began using Romaco technologies in 1983 and 

has continuously expanded its stock of Romaco machines ever since. 

The solution provider, which has its headquarters in Karlsruhe (Germany), 

hasregularly received valuable input from HERMES PHARMA 

in connection with new technological advances. For example, the 

company was involved in the design of the FlexTrans strip packaging 

line and the Siebler STF 120 tube filling machine under a development 

collaboration arrangement. “We appreciate Romaco’s openness and

T.C. Tcaret Bakanlığı ve Türkye İhracatçılar Mecls (TİM) onayında, İstanbul 

Kmyev Maddeler ve Mamuller İhracatçıları Brlğ (İKMİB) organzasyonu 

ve TÜBİTAK desteğ le bu yıl 11’ncs düzenlenen Kmya Ar-Ge Proje Pazarı 

Ödül Tören 10 Aralık 2022 tarhnde Dış Tcaret Kompleks’nde gerçekleştrld. 

Altı proje kategorsnde toplam 136 projenn başvurduğu yarışmada 

19 proje ödüle layık görüldü ve 900 bn TL para ödülü verld. 

Adl Pelster: “11 yılda 3 mlyon 200 bn TL ödül dağıtmış olduk” 

Ödül törennde konuşan İKMİB Yönetm Kurulu Başkanı Adl Pelster, bu 

öneml etknlk le akadem dünyası, KOBİ şletmeler ve Ar-Ge novasyon 

çalışması olan proje sahpleryle projeler tcarleştrmek steyen yatırımcıları 

buluşturduklarını vurguladı. Proje hakkında blgler paylaşan Pelster,”2011 

yılından bu yana yaklaşık 1500 proje başvurusu aldık ve yne toplamda bu 

yıl dahl olmak üzere 3 mlyon 200 bn Türk lrası ödül dağıtmış olacağız. 

Ar-Ge Proje Pazarı etknlğmze başvuran projelermzn 34’ü tcarleşt, 13 

proje çn se plot üretm yapıldı ve satış görüşmeler devam edyor. Tcarleşen 

projelern 10’u patent alma başarısı gösterd. Projeler 6 kategorde 

değerlendrmeye alınmakta olup bunlara laveten de ayrıca ‘Başarı Hkayeler’ 

kategorsnden de başvuru alınıyor. 

Bz ‘Başarı Hkayeler’ kategorsne ayrı br önem veryoruz. Bu öneme stnaden 

2020 yılında 18, 2021 yılında se 10 Başarı Hkayes çn ayrı ayrı tanıtım 

flmler hazırladık. Böylece hem kmya sektörümüzü hem de sektörümüze 

güç katan projeler brçok mecrada tanıtma mkanı sağlamış olduk” ded. 

Organized by Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ 

Association (İKMİB) with the support of TÜBİTAK and approval of 

Republic of Turkey Ministry of Trade and Turkish Exporters Association 

(TİM) for the 11th time this year, Chemicals R&D Project Market 

Award Ceremony was organized on December 10th, 2022, at Foreign Trade 

Complex. In the contest which received applications of a total of 136 projects 

in six project categories, 19 projects received monetary awards of 900 

thousand TL. 

Adil Pelister: “We gave 3 million 200 thousand TL in awards in 11 years” 

Speaking at the award ceremony, İKMİB Chairman of the Board Adil Pelister 

emphasized that in this important event they brought together the academia, 

SME businesses and project owners conducting R&D innovation studies 

and investors who want to commercialize their projects. Sharing information 

about the project, Pelister said: “We have received approximately 1500 

project applications since 2011 and we will have distributed a total of 3 million 

200 thousand Turkish liras in awards, including this year. 34 of the projects 

that applied at our R&D Project Market event were commercialized, while 

pilot production was made for 13 projects for which sales negotiations are 

continuing. 10 of the commercialized projects were secured by patents. 

Projects are evaluated in 6 categories and in addition, applications are also 

received for the ‘Success Stories’ category. We place a special emphasis 

to the ‘Success Stories’ category. Based on this emphasis, we prepared 

separate introductory films for 18 Success Stories in 2020 and 10 in 2021. 

Thus, we provided the opportunity to promote both our chemicals industry 

and the projects that reinforce our industry through various channels.”

on an area of 40 thousand square-meters and at 7 halls of Tüyap Bursa 

International Fair and Congress Center, with the participation of 378 

companies and company representatives has witnessed this year, once 

again, a sales record as the most important gathering of the machinery 

manufacturing industry.

ECH Bursa Machine Technologies Fair where the international Bursa 

Metal Processing Technologies Fair, Metal Sheet Processing Technologies

zyaretçy br araya getrdk. Katılımcılarımız 4 günde müthş br satış 

rekoruna mza attı. Fuara katılan her 4 katılımcımızın 3’ünün fuarda 

sıcak satış yaptığını öğrendk. Bu satış rüzgarının fuar sonrasında da 

devam edeceğnn snyallern de aldık. Makne malat sektöründe yarattığımız 

bu tcar hareketllkle hracat blançosuna değer kattığımız 

başarılı br fuara mza atmanın mutluluğunu yaşıyoruz” ded.

BUMATECH Fuarları’nın yarattığı satış rüzgarının dkkatler Tüyap Makne 

Fuarları Grubu’nun 2023 yılında düzenleyeceğ dğer fuarlara 

çektğne değnen Ersözlü, “Zyaretç ve katılımcılarımızın artan memnunyetyle 

2023 yılında düzenleyeceğmz makne fuarlarına şmdden 

talep almaya başladık. 24-27 Mayıs 2023 tarhlernde İstanbul’da 

düzenleyeceğmz Tube & Steel ve Wretech Fuarları le seney açacağız. 

Ardından da İstanbul, Konya ve Eskşehr’de düzenleyeceğmz 

fuarlarımız le rekor satışlara mza atmayı sürdüreceğz.” Dye belrtt. 

Tüyap, Türkiye’nin ilk fuarcılık şirketi olarak 1979’da Bülent 

Ünal tarafından kuruldu. 

Tüyap was founded by Bülent Ünal, in 1979, as the first exhibition 

company in Türkiye. 

“3 OUT OF EVERY 4 EXHIBITORS MADE HOT SALES” 

Underlining that BUMATECH Fairs became the latest and 

the most significant gathering of the machine industry this 

year, as it did every year of its organization, General Manager of 

Tüyap Fuarlar Yapım A.Ş., İlhan Ersözlü, drew attention to the added 

value created by the fairs for the machinery manufacturing industry 

and Turkish economy. Mr. Ersözlü added, “This year’s BUMATECH 

Fairs increased the satisfaction level of both exhibitors and visitors, 

in terms of promoting themselves and making hot sales. we gathered 

36,762 visitors from 67 countries by the end of the 4th day. 

Our exhibitors achieved a splendid sales record in 4 days. We were 

informed that 3 out of every 4 exhibitors who participated in the fair 

made hot sales. We further received signals on how that wind of 

sales would also continue after the fair. With this commercial mobility 

we created in the machinery manufacturing industry, we feel 

the happiness of putting our signature under a successful fair, by 

means of which we will add value to the export balance.”

CORD SALES” 

Mr. Ersözlü also mentioned that the wind of sales blown by BU- 

MATECH Fairs drew attention to the other fairs to be organized 

by Tüyap’s Group of Machinery Fairs in 2023 and continued his 

words as follows: “We have already started receiving requests for 

the machinery fairs that we will organize in 2023 with an increased 

satisfaction of our visitors and exhibitors. We will start the year with 

the Tube & Steel and Wiretech Fairs that we will organize in İstanbul 

from 24 to 27 May 2023. Then, we will continue putting our signature 

under record sales with the fairs we will organize in İstanbul, 

Konya and Eskişehir provinces.”
