Erasmus in Ljubljana
When I was deciding to which university to go for my Erasmus, I didn´t know a lot about Univerza
v Ljubljani. But I knew from my friends who have been there that Slovenia is a beautiful country,
slovene language is quite similar to slovak and slovene people are hospitable and nice to foreigners.
Now I can say that to go to Ljubljana was one of my best decisions ever.
When I was arranging all the neccessary things before going on Erasmus I have met different people –
some were really helpful, some not. So I was prepared that also in Ljubljana there will be some
troubles and a bit of byrocracy ( as was at my university ). But when I came and met Doc. Mars
I realized that everything will be without troubles. He helped me a lot on the beginning: arranged
meetings with professors, found a tutor for me, made for me possible to attend some more practical
lectures, helped me with formalities at the student department... During whole my staying he was
always prepared to help. And also he was really friendly and has done so much as possible to make
foreign students staying in Ljubljana lovely and remarkable. Also he organised a trip for us and we
have spend really nice time at Predjamski grad this day all together.
I have decided to go for Erasmus because I wanted to experience living abroad, meet some new
people, get to know new cultures and of course improve my actual knowledge in the field of medicine.
All this I experienced, and I have also started to learn slovene language. At the faculty everybody –
students and professors – was helpful and willing. Faculty of medicine in Ljubljana is very modern,
classrooms are equipped with modern furniture and technique. Professors and assistants are
professional, with a lot of knowledge and prepared to answer students questions. They were patient
with students, explaining the topic again when it was necessary. During the lectures there was always
space for discussion. Also during the practice there were trying to learn us as much as possible, show
us as many patients as possible. Of course some lectures ( as at every faculty ) were boring and
uninteresting. But in general I can say that I was really satisfied with all the classes I took a part.
As a student I had all the privilegiums as slovene students have. This means discount on every corner,
sport possibilities for free ( at faculty of sport or at some student dorms ) and of course student bons
for eating ( with bons students can eat really cheap in many restaurants all over the city ). And the
dorm where I was staying ( Dom Ilirska ) was also perfect – close to faculty, bathroom and kitchen
were part of apartment for six people and internet on every room.
What everybody told me about Slovenia was right: people are nice to each other, open, trying to get on
well with everybody and most of the time in good mood. They are cheerful and freed. Slovenia as
a country has a lot of to offer to tourists from all over the world and is cheep when we compare it with
other EU states.
In the end I want to recommend everybody to spend one semester ( or maybe more if there is
a possibility ) at Medicinska fakulteta v Ljubljani.
