The project Research Port Rostock(Forschungshafen Rostock)was launched in 2006 on the inia-ve of the federal state of Mecklenburg-WesternPomerania. It isthe objecve to set up and operatea test environment to develop marimeapplicaons for Galileo andto test prototype applicaons in theport area of Rostock. The Free Stateof Bavaria, the Federal State ofLower Saxony and the Federal Stateof Mecklenburg-Western Pomeraniaintend to cooperate in the development,setup and ulizaon ofthe European satellite navigaonsystem Galileo. Within the network,the issue of Marime Applicaonsis managed by the Federal State ofMecklenburg-Western Pomerania.In close cooperaon with regionalbusiness companies, university andnon-university research instu-ons, an infrastructure will be establishedthat is unique in Europe,enabling already now both researchersand companies to developand test services, products and conceptsin the field of marime navigaon.As a result, marketable andfunconing products can be offeredto a broad variety of user profiles bythe start of the satellite navigaonsystem Galileo.Currently four following projectsare conducted in ResearchPort Rostock:1. ALEGRO – Development ofa local marime supplement systemto support high precision Galileoapplicaons and services in theResearch Port Rostock.2. SEA GATE – Galileo test bedfor marime applicaons.3. InnoMAG – Innovave marimeapplicaons of Galileo.4. GAMMA – Galileo AugmentedMoon in Marime Applica-on.BalcFuture trade fair and specialworkshop organized by ResearchPort in Rostock.The cooperaon between Mari-me University of Szczecin and ResearchPort together with DLR(Germany Aerospace Centre, Instuteof Communicaons and Navigaon)started one year ago. Theaim is to apply together to EU frameworkproject in the future. Tworesearchers (Lucjan Gucma and MaciejGucma) from Marime Universityof Szczecin took part inBalcFuture trade fair on the 18thof November part of which was aspecial workshop: "Research PortRostock – Tesng Ground for theDevelopment of Marime GNSSbasedOperaons" held by the ini-ave "Research Port Rostock". Theworkshop was chaired by Dr. Me(Spokesman of the Research Port).The most important contribuonsof the workshop were:1. “Safe and economical efficientmarime shipping – Tasks andObjecves” presented by Prof. Dr.Knud Benedict (University of Wismar).2. “Satellite-based posioningfor marime navigaon” presentedby Prof. Dr. Christoph Guenther(DLR, Instute for Communicaonsund Navigaon).3. “SEAGATE - the operaonalmarime Galileo tested in Europe”presented by Holm Dietz (RostockSystem-Technik GmbH).4. “Modular track planning algorithmsfor precise track guidancein narrow estuaries” presented byProf. Dr. Bernhard Lampe (Universityof Rostock).5. “Local augmentaon systemsfor precise and reliable GNSSbasedposioning in port areas”presented by Dr. Evelin Engler (DLR,Instute of Communicaons andNavigaon).Lucjan GucmaFOTO: HERO/NORDLICHT20 Akademickie Aktualności Morskienr 1(60) 2009
