Holiday mattersThe first issue of this year’s union magazine isdevoted to matters pertaining to holidays andthe holiday chalets the union has at its disposalfor renting out to its members. Members mayapply for the rental of a holiday chalet for oneweek at a specified location and since manyoften apply for the same location, it is a goodidea to apply for different places and/or times asalternative options, up to six of which are permitted. Those members renting holiday housestake full responsibility for the houses, furnitureand everything that comes with them. The holidayhouses are to be returned in good, cleancondition. If that is not done the cleaning will becharged to the person that has rented it.You indicate in the table on page 14 whichhouse you are applying for, adding the numbers1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 if you are applying for alternativeoptions. The holiday chalets are thenallotted on the basis of a credit system which theunion has developed. Each member who paysin to the union receives one credit point permonth, regardless of job ratio or the amountpaid in union dues. If more than one personapplies for the same chalet at the same time, theone who has accumulated the largest number ofcredit points is first choice. Then, to ensure that those who are not successfulin renting a chalet have a better chancenext time they apply, a special number of pointsis deducted from a union member who rents achalet. The number of deducted credit pointsvaries according to time and other factors.Unfortunately there is not enough space totranslate information relating to the chalets intoEnglish. However, the location should be clearfrom the place names and by using the map ofIceland on page 14. The deadline for applyingfor holiday chalets is 31.
